OWENS JOHN F. JACK 92, died on Monday, December 2, 2013, at his residence at Sherwood Oaks, Cranberry Township. He was born in Glenwillard, PA, on January 25, 1921, the son of Lincoln Owens and Frances Scharpf Owens. He served our country in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II in the Pacific Theater beginning in 1942 and until his discharge as Staff Sergeant in 1946. He returned to the Beaver Valley to work for the American Bridge Company division of US Steel, retiring in 1987. He moved to Sherwood Oaks in 1993. Mr. Owens was a kind and generous gentleman who loved his country, his flowers, especially his roses, his convertibles, and baseball, especially the Pirates. His remains will be interred in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, with those of the other loyal persons who have served their country well. At his direction, there will be no visitation or services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sherwood Oaks Employee Scholarship Fund, 100 Norman Drive, Cranberry Township, PA 16066, or the Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children, 201 N. Bellefield Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Special words of appreciation are expressed to a friend from Zelienople who prefers to remain anonymous, and the Oak Grove staff at Sherwood Oaks, for their devoted care and attention.
