HORNYAK FRANCIS G. Age 87, of Whitehall (formerly of South Side), died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, April 25, 2017. Loving husband of 57 years to Esther L. (Novobilsky) Hornyak; devoted father of Linda M. (David S.) Hornyak-Grieve, of Durham, NH, and Diane (James G.) Thornton, of Pittsburgh, PA; beloved grandfather of Vincent J. and Anthony D. Thornton and Tristan S. and Hunter Q. Grieve. Francis is survived by his sister, Dorothy Belajac, and is preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret Foley, Catherine Mate, Mary Gostkowski, and Dr. John F. Hornyak, Sr.; and his parents, Andrew and Anna Hornyak. Francis served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1955, during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1959. Francis was employed with American Thermoplastic Co. for 25 years, and he was an avid fisherman and found great enjoyment in vegetable gardening.
