O'CONNOR EDWARD AGE 77, OF WES...

O'CONNOR EDWARD Age 77, of West Deer Township, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017, at UPMC - Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born May 5, 1940, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Timothy and Irene (Gearing) O'Connor. Also, preceding him in death, brothers, Timothy O'Connor, Jr., Thomas O'Connor; and son, Mark O'Connor. Edward was a Lawyer with Eckert Seamans for 52 years. Uncomfortable with "retirement", Ed went to work for Moran & Moran Law Firm in Wexford until his sudden passing. Ed was a member of the Duquesne Club and of Wildwood Country Club. He loved watching Penguins hockey and traveling, namely, to Naples, FL and Hilton Head, SC. However, Ed truly cherished his work and was proud of his service in the community. Honesty and Integrity were at the heart of everything Ed accomplished. He was proud that his "Word was bond." Among his many community contributions were, Hampton Township Planning Commission, Chair of Hampton Township Zoning Hearing Board, Director and member of the Audit, Compliance & Compensation Committees of Federated Investors, Inc., Council for the Sisters of St. Francis in Millvale, Trustee of the Noble J. Dick Educational Foundation, St. Francis Health System Board of Directors, Board of Directors for St. Francis Plaza, Inc., Board of Directors of Duquesne University and the Executive Committee of the Board and Chair of the Student Life Committee of the Board. Included amongst his many recognitions are Recipient of 2012 President's Award from the Allegheny Bar Association, Central Catholic High School 2011 Distinguished Alumnus in Law Award, St. Thomas More Society 2008 Award at the Annual Red Mass, the Caritas Award of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, 2003, Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Duquesne Law and Review and the Duquesne Law Alumni Association, Century Club of Distinguished Alumnus and recipient of the McAnulty Service Award from Duquesne University, and Allegheny County Bar Foundation Fellows Program which annually awards an honorary membership in Edward O'Connor's name to recognize attorneys who show a commitment to excellence in charitable, community, professional and public service activities. Ed truly used his hard work and talents to make his community a better place. He is survived by his Wife, Janet Showalter O'Connor, of West Deer Twp; Daughter, Susan (Brett) Rothmeyer of Highland Park; Grandchildren, Colby O'Connor, of California, PA; Aiden and Elise Rothmeyer of Highland Park. Edward's family will welcome friends from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. on January 3, 2018, from at the KING FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., corner of Route 8 and 2841 Woodland Circle in Allison Park, PA 15101. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at the St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 2510 Middle Road, Glenshaw 15116 with Father Timothy Whalen, officiating. He will be laid to rest in Assumption Cemetery on St. Mary's. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Allegheny County Bar Fellows Award, 400 Koppers Building, 436 Seventh Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15219 in the name of Edward O'Connor. www.acbf.org.
