PETERS MARIA ELIZABETH Age 81, of Friendship Village, Upper St. Clair, on February 12, 2014. Devoted mother of John (Anne) McFeaters of Tannum Sands, Australia, Kristine (Paul) O'Brien of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Charles (Joyce) McFeaters of Upper St. Clair; loving grandmother of Eleanor, Andrew, and Elizabeth McFeaters, John Paul and Anna O'Brien, Charles (Sarah), Robert, and Katherine McFeaters; sister of the late Bela and Leslie "Les" Karlovitz. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Robert H. Peters. Born in Budapest, Hungary, Maria was educated and grew up in Switzerland. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1947 to rejoin her father who had come before the war to work on a special project at Westinghouse Electric Research. The family settled in Mt. Lebanon, PA, where Maria graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School with honors. She then went on to attend Carnegie Mellon University, School of Architecture, one of the first women to do so. With her natural talent for the analytical, Maria began her career in financial services as a pension and investment consultant. She earned her Certified Financial Planner designation in 1989 and opened her own practice as one of America's first fee only female financial planners. Maria was a co-founder and retired Vice-President of Santori & Peters, Inc., Registered Investment Advisors, a personal wealth management firm located in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. She previously served on the Santori & Peters Board of Directors. Maria was a long-term Board member and past president of the Pittsburgh Financial Planning Association (FPA). She also held the Certified Financial Planner and Accredited Investment Fiduciary designations. With over 30 years of financial service experience, she brought to each client a wealth of financial expertise and sound financial judgment. Along the way, Maria raised three children and was a great inspiration to her eight grandchildren, whom she enjoyed immensely. She was an avid gardener, an excellent skier and in her day, one of the top tennis players in the tri-state area, activities she continued her entire life. Maria did volunteer work at Woodville and Morganza, she was a cub scout den mother, and always had an open door for friends and relatives when they needed help. She was a remarkable woman whose grace and gentility touched everyone she encountered. Friends will be welcomed at LAUGHLIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 222 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon, Friday evening, Feb. 28, 2014, from 5:00 until 8:00, with a Funeral Service Saturday morning, March 1, 2014, at 10:30.
