EMERSON REUBEN L. Of Squirrel Hill, formerly of Akron, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, age 94. Beloved husband of Carol Schuit Emerson and the late Dorothy Jacobs Emerson; father of Rev. June Thomsen (Ib) of Kansas, Edward R. Emerson of Akron, OH, Karen Thomson (Doug) of Evanston, IL, Elaine Emerson of Akron, OH and Gordon Emerson of North Carolina; stepfather of Elizabeth S. Crum, Christopher S. Schuit (Tisa) and Katherine S. Brennan (Dan), all of Pittsburgh; grandfather of 20; great- grandfather of seven. Reuben was the eldest of six children born to John and Edith Emerson; also survived by three siblings and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Reuben was a lifelong learner and appreciated music, nature, history, and literature. He was a skilled tool and die maker and formed his own business in Akron, Ohio. He sang in many choirs and played the violin at church and at home for most of his life. His family and friends adored Reuben, a man of faith, integrity, and love. He enjoyed the beauties of the Laurel Mountains at his country retreat at Scottyland, PA. A memorial service will be held at Sixth Presbyterian Church, Forbes and Murray Avenues, on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in Pittsburgh. A second memorial celebration will be held in Akron, OH, on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Prime 93 Restaurant, followed by a graveside committal service.
