
KOERBER JOHN R. DICK Age 84, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at his daughter's home in Bethel Park, PA, where he's lived for the past six years. He was born December 10, 1929, in Carrick, PA, the son of the late John and Elsa Koerber. Dick was a stellar athlete at Carrick High School and continued his football career throughout college. He was very proud that he played for two of the most famous football coaches in the country, Paul "Bear" Bryant at the University of Kentucky and Joe Paterno at Penn State University. After graduating from PSU, he served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Cocoa Beach, FL where he met his wife, Patricia Mae Hewitt. After his discharge, they relocated back to Pittsburgh, PA., where he began his career with National Gypsum Company and raised their family. After retiring in 1991, he and Pat divided their time between Charlotte, NC and Pittsburgh. Dick's fondest memories are those that began as a baby at "the pink cottage" on the Allegheny River in Trunkeyville, PA. When he wasn't fishing or golfing, he could be found playing cards with his "Gin (Rummy) Buddies. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; his son, Ricky; and his grandchildren, Kristen and Joseph Putaro. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, four daughters, Debby Drennen and husband, Tim, of Slippery Rock, PA, Patsy Foster and husband, Jeff, of Bethel Park, Kathleen Putaro and husband, Joey, of Bethel Park, PA Nancy Elam and husband, Rodney, of Charlotte, NC ; eight grandchildren, Kalin, Kelsey, Jonathan, Anthony, Robert, Alli, AJ, and Ashley; and one great- granddaughter, Kaylee. Dick will forever be remembered for his ability to entertain people with his jokes and stories, but most importantly for the great man he was to all who were blessed to know him.
