MELANIE SCHMIDT Melanie Schmidt was born on September 6, 1921, in Galati, Romania and died on September 11, 2020 in Pittsburgh. She was the daughter of Jacques Raitman and Diane Raitman, born Birnbaum. Widow of Colonel Alexandru Schmidt, Melanie is survived by her only daughter, Marina Schmidt Lupinacci. Melanie Schmidt was a prominent artist, holding a Master's degree in Painting from the Bucharest University Art Institute, Romania. She worked as Director of a Designing Office in Bucharest, and as a freelance Artist, illustrating books, and after retirement she immigrated to Israel, where she worked for 14 years as a graphic designer at Kavim, Ltd. Melanie joined her daughter in the USA in 1998, and became a USA citizen on October 16, 2009. She illustrated two children's books, published in USA, and collaborated with Carnegie Museum of Arts, painting different birds, fishes, and animals. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until a funeral service at 12 noon.
