FINESTONE DR. STEPHEN C. Age 81, peacefully, passed away on August 7, 2013 in Vero Beach, Florida at the VNA Hospice House. Steve practiced his specialty of Anesthesia for over forty years and served as Chief of Anesthesia at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA for 32 years. In addition, he was Vice Chairman of Anesthesia at the University of Pittsburgh. His medical training took place at New York University Bellevue School of Medicine followed by his residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital, NYC. He served as President of the PA Society of Anesthesiology and received their Distinguished Service Award. He was medical director of the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Anesthesia for Nurses, graduating over two hundred nurse anesthetists. At Mt. Sinai Hospital, NYC, he met his future wife, Eileen Sandfelder, R.N. They were married for 55 years. Steve enjoyed boating on the rivers in Pittsburgh and sailing on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. As a family there were numerous camping trips, skiing and family reunions at lakes in Tennessee. He enjoyed telling jokes and stories that were handed down from his late father and acquired from other sources. He was a loyal friend to many. He loved all his dogs including his current dogs, Maggie and Coco, who brought him great joy. Steve was always active in the community and served on many boards. The world was a better place with Steve in it. His is survived by his devoted wife, Eileen, supportive family members including, sons, Mark Finestone (Cindy), Scott Finestone (Rebecca), Ross Finestone (Angela); and four beloved grandchildren, Deborah, Edward, Hannah and Luke; a niece; two nephews; and sister-in-law, Paula. He was predeceased by his beloved grandson, Zachary; and his treasured brother-in-law, Martin Sandfelder. Graveside service will be held in Pittsburgh and a Memorial service will be held in Vero Beach at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the VNA Hospice House at 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL, 32960 or Indian River Medical Center 1000 36th St, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
