MUSKAT GEORGIANA JOYCE (TARSHIS) Age 70, known as Georgie to many of her friends, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at her home in the Morningside neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA in the company of her husband, David. Georgie was a dynamic, beautiful, driven mother, wife and friend who had an amazing impact on all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, David; and her two daughters, Elizabeth Muskat and Carolyn Muskat and her husband, Seth Read. Also Robin Williams, a home health aide, who became an integral part of the family, the “third daughter”, assisted Georgie and David for more than 15 years. She and her family shared many projects and laughs with Georgie, and are truly part of our circle. Georgie was a force, always busy, always working on that next project. She had many interests, including gardening, sewing, miniature trains, antiques, crocheting, and more recently, quilting. She always had an opinion, and never shied away from sticking by her beliefs. She was extremely supportive of her daughters, and became an honorary Fairy Godmother to many of her daughters' friends' children. Every holiday, there would be a flurry of packages being sent around the world, carrying blankets, doll clothes, PEZ dispensers, craft projects, and more to children of all ages. Georgie was born in Portland, OR, but spent her early years in Morningside. She graduated from Gateway High School in Monroeville, and met her husband, David, on a blind date in Pittsburgh at the Pleasure Bar, a favorite restaurant of theirs. The family moved from Ohio to Texas and back to Ohio over the years, but eventually Georgie and David came back to Pittsburgh, the place Georgie always considered “home”. Georgie had a strong interest in her Gateway classmates and her connections with friends. For many years, she worked tirelessly as “Alice the Gator”, the creator and editor of a newsletter for her fellow Gateway alums. Decidedly old-school, Georgie managed to create a way for the gang to keep up with each other, way before anyone used the phrase “social media”. She always loved to hear from fellow Gators, about their families, their travels, and their lives. Georgie was proud of her gardens, and could spot a weed from 20 paces. Neighbors and friends always stopped by to admire the flowers and the yard. She was a generous gardener, willing to share cuttings or seedlings, or just share in the joy of the garden. She was an ardent lover of wildlife, especially the chipmunks who lived in her garden. Whether it was watching the chipmunks or the raccoons, the skunks or the deer, or the thousands of birds – the Muskat household was always a welcome refuge for them. Throughout her life, Georgie was known for her energy, commitment, and drive. She played active roles in her children's education and lives, and was always quick to volunteer her help. She never did anything half way. Funeral arrangements were privately held, under the direction of the ELOISE B. KYPER FUNERAL HOME, INC. In memory of Georgiana, please live your life with commitment, kindness, and generosity.
