McLAUGHLIN DAVID R. Age 81, of Washington, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2015, after a courageous battle with Mesothelioma. He was born on April 25, 1933, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Nelson and Cecelia (Schultes) McLaughlin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he completed Aviation Structural Mechanic School specializing in Aircraft Construction. Dave was a proud retired Steamfitter of UA Local 449. He enjoyed life to its fullest, riding motorcycles, flying planes (recently donating his plane to Wings of Hope), skiing, scuba diving, sky diving, and many other outdoor activities that presented him a challenge. He was also passionate about traveling with his wife, Carole. Together they traveled the world often visiting adventurous and exotic places. Dave had more friends than a man could ask for and belonged to several clubs, including the Pittsburgh Ski Club, Four Winds BMW Riders, Miata Club and many others. He embodied that Pittsburgh quality of being warm and friendly to all. He had a twinkle in his eye and great stories to tell. More than anything, he was an honorable man who loved "his girls". Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Carole (Wolfe) McLaughlin; a daughter, Patty (Bill) Gunzburg; a stepdaughter, Lisa (Andrew) Prichard; a brother, Jim (Ona) McLaughlin; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Bob McLaughlin and Father Nelson "Jack" McLaughlin. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in BEINHAUER FUNERAL HOME, 2828 Washington Rd., McMurray (724-941-3211). Committal and Interment Services will be held Monday 2 p.m. in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies (everyone please meet at the funeral assembly point). At the conclusion of interment services, the family asks that you join them for a luncheon and time of fellowship in the Community Room at Beinhauer Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (www.curemeso.org). Please add tributes at: www.beinhauer.com Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
