HERR WILLIAM STEWART PASSED AW...

HERR WILLIAM STEWART Passed away on Monday, May 8, 2017, in Weyers Cave, VA. Well, finally I'm dead at age 88, in Virginia. Not dead really, I've passed from a lower state of Entropy to a higher state. I think that's the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Born in Pittsburgh, November 1, 1928, to Agnes Smith and Ernest Adolph Herr, I found all things possible. At age 7, I delivered bread in my wagon, then pin boy at the bowling alley, drug store soda jerk, and lifeguard. As a kid you could go anywhere on the street cars. World War II raged, my brother Ernest joined the Navy, my sister June (Lewsi) the Marines, and I the Army. An M.A. from the University of Pittsburgh gave me careers in academia, mental health, and retailing. I've had a long and happy life, a member of “The Greatest Generation,” blessed with a delightful family, my late wife, Roberta Scott; and son, Dane. I leave back on shore, the second love of my life, my wife, Jane; and my daughters, April, Circe, DIL Ann Marie; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In Greece, I walked where Socrates walked, sat where he sat, saw what he saw, stood where he delivered the Apology, and knelt where he died. Inspired by Greece, I wrote Santorini Logbook 1628 B.C. The Last Day. I learned the Universe is governed by three Laws of Thermodynamics which boiled down are: 1. You can't win! 2. You can't even break even! 3. You can't quit! These govern daily life as well. Your only chance is to prepare yourself the best you can and get lucky as I did! Thank you Pittsburgh for a great start! Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
