MARMIE GAIL HUNTER Gail H. Marmie, age 81, formerly of Monessen, died Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Jefferson Hills Borough. She was born Gail Maurine Hunter on September 18, 1935, in Monessen; a daughter of Francis and Laverda Clingerman Hunter. Gail was a retired administrative assistant with both the Duquesne Light Company and Steel Recycling in Pittsburgh. During her employment with the Duquesne Light Company, she was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. She was a 1975 graduate of California University (formerly known as the California Teachers College). She had been a member of the First Christian Church in Monessen and later joined the Lynnwood Lutheran Church along with her children. Surviving are a son, Timothy Marmie (Sherri Taddeo) of Monongahela; three daughters, Betsy Sedney (Robert) of McMurray, Amy Krug (Jeffrey) of Presto and Nancy Hamilton (Alan) of Monongahela; a brother, Floyd Holroyd of Sarasota, FL; six grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. There will be no public visitation. A graveside service will be held in Grandview Cemetery in Monessen at a later date. EDGAR DOROTHY L. Age 93, of Penn Hills, died Tuesday, May 16, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Speer and Minnie (Penney) Speer. She was the sister of the late June Kennedy and Thelma Krueger. She was the loving wife of 67 years of the late Harry Edgar. She was the loving mother of Harry Edgar, Jr. and Scott Edgar (Elaine); and loving grandmother of Scott William Edgar II. In her younger days, she was prettier than Miss America. She was a member of the National Honor Society at Westinghouse High School. She ran races at the Kennywood Park and the men would bet on her to win. She also won a Cy Hungerford Award for her art work. In the 1940s, she was an executive secretary at the Pittsburgh Board of Education. In the 1980s she did volunteer work at the Oakmont Presbyterian Home. The family is having a private service and interment. NIGRO LOUIS B. Age 93, of Trafford, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017, in the Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. Lou was born on July 6, 1923, in Saviato, Italy the son of the late Nicola and Christina (Arlotti) Nigro. Lou was a veteran of WWII serving with the Army. He was a Radio Operator with the 3rd Division serving in Naples-Foggia, Sicily, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was wounded in action in Southern France on August 4, 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart, Distinguished Unit Badge, and European, African, Middle Eastern Service Medal with six Bronze Stars, and one Bronze Arrowhead. Lou was trained as a tailor in Italy and immigrated to the US in 1937. After the war in 1946, he established his business, Nigro's Cleaners and Tailor Shop. Later the business became Nigro Brothers Cleaners as he became partners with his brother Tony. Nigro's Cleaners is still in the family and run by his son Nick. Lou was active in the Trafford community. He was a member of the St. Regis Church, a long-time member of the former Trafford Rotary, where he received the Paul Harris Award, Trafford Borough Council, and the Trafford American Legion Post 331. Lou was preceded in death by his twin sisters, Mary A. Smith and Mafalda DePaola. Lou is survived by his loving wife, Anna L. (Mikach) Nigro; his children, Elaine A. (David R.) Cooper, of Pittsburgh, Ronald L. (Deborah) Nigro, Trafford and Nicholas J. (Judy) Nigro, of Level Green; his two grandchildren, Ryan L. (Julie) Nigro and Daniel A. Marlin served in the US Navy during World War II, was a member of the Veteran's Breakfast Club, and volunteered at Family Hospice in Mount Lebanon. He retired from Shadyside Hospital in 1993 as the Vice President of Human Resources. Marlin belonged to the Peace Lutheran Church. He loved to travel and was an avid reader. Marlin's fondest passion was for his hometown St. Louis Cardinals, he rarely missed a game and was a living treasury of baseball history and the legends of the game. HICKLY NICHOLAS JOSEPH On May 18, 2017, Nicholas Joseph Hickly, age 83, of McCandless, beloved husband of 43 years to Claudia Geyer Hickly; father of Nicholas J. (Sophia Liang) Hickly, Jr., Karen A. Hickly and Michael J. Hickly; brother of Gerald J. (Eleanor) Hickly and Mae H. (James W.) Bouloubasis; grandfather of Kaisen and Alden Hickly. Nicholas was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas John and Catherine Mae (Schmitt) Hickly. Nick was born at home in Pittsburgh on February 15, 1934. After developing his musical talents at Baldwin High School, he graduated in 1952 and pursued his passion for music at Duquesne University, graduating in 1961 after doing a stint in the United States Marine Corps. He was a man of many interests and talents which he pursued vigorously until his death; singer, dancer, pianist, classical guitarist, and golfer. However, his most satisfying roles were as husband and father. His family will miss his wonderful sense of humor and sharp mind, his smile and encouraging words, and the lovely music he made each day. KAHL DAN R. Dan R. Kahl passed away on May 4, 2017, at Friendship Village Health Center. Dan was born September 1, 1924, the son of Robert C. and Frances R. Kahl in Auburn, New York. He was a resident of Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania for 42 years. Dan is survived by two sons, Michael and Kurt Fritz; his brother, Ed Kahl; three grandchildren, Aaron Kahl, Jordan Batta, and Hilary Marcella; as well as four great- grandchildren, Cora and Colin Batta, and Elliot and Rowan Kahl. Dan was a graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology in Civil Engineering in 1947. He served in the Navy during World War II in the 146th NCB Construction Battalion and the 607th CBMU on Okinawa and Kwajalein as a Lt. (jg). Dan worked for Eichleay Corporation, Pittsburgh for 33 years as Vice President of Estimating and Technical Services and subsequently for Comstock Engineering for six years as Vice President of Construction Services. Dan will be interred at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania next to his wife, Dorothy, of 57 years who passed away in 2004.
