GROMEK MR. EDWARD A. Age 90, of Latrobe, formerly of Cary, NC, died on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. He was born in E. Pittsburgh, son of the late Frank and Frances Gromek. He was a member of St. Vincent Basilica Parish, Unity Township where he was an altar server and lector for many years and former member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Cary. Prior to retirement, he was employed as Associate Executive Director by ISA-The Instrumentation Systems and Automation Society, Research Triangle Park, NC. Mr. Gromek was a member of the Pennsylvania, North Carolina and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was a retired member of the Council of Engineering and Society Executives and former member of the Board of Directors. Mr. Gromek also served as financial adviser to Foyer Unitas Institute in Rome, Italy, and was active in other charitable organizations. He was a graduate of Villanova University and received an MBA from Florida Atlantic University. He was a World War II Veteran having served with the U.S. Marines. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley Gromek, Albuquerque, NM and an infant brother, Eugene. He is survived by his loving wife, Mimi (Hazaga) Gromek; sister, Helen (Frederick) Gromek Bucci, of Southern Pines, NC; brother, Richard Gromek, of Greensburg; sister-in-law, Catherine Hazaga Wingertzahn, of Ogden, UT; brother-in-law, Robert C. Age 73, of New Bethlehem, passed away quietly Tuesday, June 6, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with cancer at the Butler VA Community Living Center where he received excellent loving care by the entire staff. George was a son of the late T.C. Goetz and Mae F. Goetz, of Wexford, PA. He is the brother of Robert C. Goetz and his wife, Marty, of Zelienople and William A. Goetz (the late Sylvia), of Jacksonville, FL. He is also survived by two nephews; and two great-nieces. George was a Vietnam Era veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a sheet metal worker and a member of Local 12. He was always willing to help his many friends and family with their projects as he was able to do most any type of work. BORZA SHERRY DIANE (NEE SZVOBODA) Passed away unexpectedly at home on June 1, 2017, in Merritt Island, FL. Born January 12, 1949, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Elsie Frances (nee Ciotola) and William Szvoboda. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, Oscar Meier. She is survived by her husband, Ray Borza. Sherry worked at Amerinet, Oakland Orthopedics, and St. Margaret's Hospital. Although she moved to Florida, she treasured her Pittsburgh roots, friends, and Steelers. She also had close ties with friends and neighbors in Merritt Island. All are left to mourn her sudden passing. A multi-talented person, she spent many happy hours crafting jewelry and other items. Basket-making, spinning and weaving, photography, and painting were also among her many talents. Her family and friends will cherish her creations for years to come. She attended a broad variety of workshops, forging deep bonds with friends and fostering their creative sides. Sherry loved to travel and, with Ray, visited Grenada, Venezuela, Belize, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico. She was a skilled and adventurous cook. Sherry's life was not an easy one, and she held dear the special friends who were her source of unfailing support and encouragement. You cannot be listed but must surely know how much she loved you. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1954 with a BA in Business Administration, and worked for the Pittsburgh National Bank for many years. A life-long Steelers fan, cutthroat Scrabble player, and faithful bridge partner, Helen embodied Eleanor Roosevelt's assertion that happiness is not a goal ... it's a by-product of a life well lived. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary Louise Herreid and Elizabeth Lister; brother-in-law, Bill Lister; and her beloved niece, Jean Lister. DePRETIS LOUIS R. Beloved husband of Melody Ann (Gregg) DePretis, father of Meshach Miller, Mellory (David) Birner and Kyle Cameron died Thursday, June 8, 2017. Louis was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend who loved his family dearly. His grandchildren, Meshach John, Mierra Peyton Miller and Melody Lovas Birner, were an exceptionally important part of his everyday life, bringing pure joy to his heart. Being a father and Pap Pap were the greatest titles he ever chose and achieved. Louis was born on September 4,1956, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Nancy J. (Tenney) DePretis and Andrew J. DePretis, Jr. of Eighty-Four, Pennsylvania. A CPA for nearly 40 years, he maintained his practice in Washington, PA (Louis R. DePretis and Associates, CPA's) where he worked closely with his friend and assistant, Mary Ellen MiMi Gafric. He was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Robert Morris University and a Ringgold High School alumnus. The years spent on the Yough River with his family and dearest friends are the most memorable. Big Daddy Lou's River House was open to everyone anytime. Rocking on the dock with his best friend and wife were his most cherished moments. He led kayaking and canoe trips for his guests and enjoyed four-wheeling with his boys, he especially loved inventing fishing lures and fishing lores with son, Meshach. Automobiles were always a true passion. In 1992 the daddy-daughter drag racing team was born and for the next 15-plus years they traveled across the US and Puerto Rico competing in National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) and International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) racing events, winning countless championships and awards, including six Ironman trophies together. Shifting from drag racing to autocross and road racing, Louis and his son, Kyle, forged an inseparable bond and loved to wrench together in the garage. Together they were very active in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and enjoyed racing their Corvettes. A member of the Golden Triangle Skeet League and the Washington Sportsmen Association, Louis was an avid and competitive skeet shooter. Additionally, he was a former member of various car clubs and the Rotary Club, the Washington Jaycees and a former South Strabane Township Supervisor. Louis enjoyed the thrill and excitement of scuba diving for many years with his family and friends. He is also survived by brothers, Dennis (Beth), Robert (Bethann); and sister, Gina (Anthony Brozovich, Jr.); and grandmother, Carla J. DePretis; daughter-in-law, Heather King; and several nieces and nephews. Louis was preceded in death by his precious mother, the late Nancy J. DePretis; his baby grandson, Gabriel John Birner; and his grandfather, the late Andrew J.
