Born on March 3, 1923, he retired in 1985 from Dravo Corporation where he had worked for 30 years as a draftsman. Dominick was an avid Beagler. She was born May 14, 1916, in Finleyville, a daughter of Henry and Julia Belcher Reid. Mrs. Carr was a homemaker. She served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of First Baptist Church in Finleyville. Surviving are two nieces, Carole Wilson of Monongahela and Paulette (Alvin) Floyd of Richmond, VA; a special and beloved grandniece, Lisa Keith of Monongahela as well as several other grandnieces and nephews; three nephews, James Coleman (Carol) of Canonsburg and Victor Carr (Charlene) of Greensboro, NC, and Ethbert Carr (Caroline) of TN; a cousin, Hazel Belcher of Washington, D.C.; a sister-in-law, Juanita Carr of Ford City; and very dear friends at Sterling House in Penn Hills. BALEST MAXINE LOUISE Age 78, passed away peacefully in Westlake Village, California on Saturday, August 12, 2017, after a brief battle with lung cancer. Throughout her life and to the end of her days, strength, determination, and courage defined Maxine's character. Maxine was born in Plum Borough, graduated from Plum High School, and attended The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Maxine was a longtime resident of Shaler Township/Glenshaw. In March 2017, she moved to Westlake Village to enjoy life nearby her sister, brother-in-law, and beloved nieces. In 1993, Maxine retired from General Motors Corporation after a career of 35-plus years. Retirement gave Maxine more time to explore other interests. She enjoyed visits to California and memorable travel adventures. Art was her greatest passion. She was a talented interior designer, watercolor, stained glass, and pottery artist. Although life presented many challenges, Maxine always saw beauty in the world. She loved nature and captured it gloriously in sensitively rendered watercolors. She will always be remembered through her beautiful paintings and artworks. Maxine was the eldest daughter and was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia (DePellegrin) Balest, and Victor Balest. GHUMAN Dr. JASWINDER KAUR On August 11, 2017, Dr. Jaswinder Kaur Ghuman, of Sewickley, PA passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Harinder; devoted mother to her only son, Avniel; mother-in-law to Sapna; and loving grandmother of Karuna, Anisha, and Namita. She was a loving big sister to her sisters, Bhupinder and Jatinder; and brother, Opinder. She was caring and worked hard for the welfare of her family and always encouraged her many nieces and nephews. She was a particular role model to young female members of the family. Dr. Ghuman was born in Dakha, India, attended C.M.C Medical College in Ludhiana, Punjab, India and also received Internal Medicine training at C.M.C. She then moved to America with her husband and received psychiatric training at Rochester Psychiatric Center, Washington University in St. Louis and Johns Hopkins Medical School in Baltimore. She held faculty positions in child psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Medical School, University of Arizona Medical College, and University of Pittsburgh Medical School. Dr. Ghuman received several teaching awards for her training of a number of child psychiatrists, general psychiatry residents, psychology interns and medical students. As a child psychiatrist, Dr. Ghuman invested her life in caring for infants and preschool children with mental health and developmental issues. She was involved in a number of research projects funded by the NIMH and published research articles, book chapters, and edited a book titled ADHD in Preschool Children: Assessment and Treatment. She developed the Ghuman-Folstein Scale for Social interactions to assess social interaction problems in pre-school children. In her free time, she enjoyed hiking, bhangra dancing with friends and family, and running around the house with her grandchildren.
