DiPILATO DOMENIC A. Age 82, of South Park (formerly of Worcester, MA) passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018. He fought an arduous battle with bravery and dignity and he is now in the arms of his loving Savior, Jesus Christ. Beloved husband of Anna Roberto DiPilato of 23 years, whom he affectionately called his guardian angel and soulmate; loving father of David (Cathy Jacques) DiPilato, John (Susan) DiPilato, Diane (J.P.) Ricciardi, Nancy (Dan Leahy) DiPilato; devoted grandfather of Vanessa (Eric) DiPilato Sheehan, Briana (John) Dipilato Capistran, Dante and Mariano Ricciardi; and great-grandson, Luca Sheehan, all of MA; brother, Nino (Arlene) DiPilato of Port Orange, FL; and three nephews, David, Michael and Vincent DiPilato. Domenic was predeceased by his brother, Pasquale; and sister, Eleanora. Domenic was the son of Vincenzo and Nunzia DiPilato and he was extremely proud of his Italian heritage which he passed along to his children and grandchildren. In his younger years, Domenic was part of the Frank Mungo Trio, played the accordion and even entertained in later years. Domenic was Assistant Director, USW New England. He tirelessly served for 40 years as an advocate for workers' rights. He served on the MA AFL-CIO Labor Council, Trustee for Worcester State College, and was the Coordinator for Workers' Assistance Program. He cared deeply for the working men and women he served, and was passionate about securing a safe work environment, negotiating improved working conditions and fighting for basic human dignity of a fair wage. Domenic, a kidney transplant recipient, held a special place in his heart for his transplant family and gave of his time to promote donor awareness. He also proudly served the United States Naval Reserve during the Korean War. Family and friends will be received at the JOHN F. KERBER EUGENE S. Age 97, of Pittsburgh and formerly of Alexandria, Virginia passed away very peacefully on December 22, 2017, at his family's Fox Chapel home surrounded by his loving family and friends. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Amy Kerber-Brancati; and son-in- law, Joseph J. Brancati of Fox Chapel; his beloved daughter, Susan Kerber Price of Virginia; cherished grandchildren, Timothy Eugene Price, Dominic Joseph Brancati, Kathryn Rose Price and Nicholas Amedeo Brancati, all of Pittsburgh; dear friends, Carmen and Tassos Nakassis of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Chelo Jacob of San Rafael, California; many nieces and nephews; and his loyal granddogs, Gigi and Oscar. Eugene was preceded in death by his sisters, Eleanore Kerber Holstein, Esq. (Leo), and Rieck B. Hannifin (Jerry); and his parents. Eugene was the son of the late Stella and Isidore Kerber, immigrants of Kiev, Russia and Austria and grew up in Squirrel Hill. His parents instilled in their children a love of learning and stressed the importance of doing well in school and beyond. Eugene graduated with high honors from Taylor Alderdice where he was named a Buhl Scholar, an academic scholarship program that afforded top students an opportunity to attend college. Eugene attended The University of Pittsburgh and graduated with distinction. He was the recipient of numerous academic awards, honorary society memberships and degrees. Upon his graduation from PITT with degrees in Economics and Math, Eugene began a long and illustrious career with the United States Government in Washington, D.C. just two days after graduation. During his 50 years, he held top positions at The State Department, The Department of the Treasury, The Department of Commerce, The International Monetary Fund and The World Bank. It was at The Department of Commerce that his career really took off. He was the Head of the Balance of Payments Division of the Department of Commerce. Eugene was a highly regarded US Diplomat representing the United States at economic meetings in Paris and was a founder of the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) which was created to stimulate economic progress and world trade in the early 1960's. He served as the Chairman for many years. He was considered to be one of the world's experts on Balance of Payments and Foreign Aid. Eugene wrote sections on Economics for the Encyclopedia Britannica's Book of the Year from 1956-1964. After his retirement, Eugene continued to work as a consultant for the Government. Spending much time in Paris, he had a lifelong passion for fine French food and wine and enjoyed eating in highly rated Michelin 4 and 5-Star restaurants wherever he traveled. He was an avid reader who read three newspapers every day and proudly completed the crossword puzzles. He read numerous magazines, The New Yorker and The Economist being his favorites. Eugene's philanthropy was both Pittsburgh and nationally based. It embraced areas dear to him-education, healthcare and the Arts. Locally, he laid the groundwork that created The Miss Mitchell Society at The Winchester Thurston School, a charitable gift annuity program, by becoming the first donor to contribute when his grandson was a student there. He was proudly a Lifetime Donor to The University of Pittsburgh. He also was a charter donor to National Jewish Health where he helped to start their charitable gift program many years ago. He also proudly supported many museums. Eugene derived his greatest joy from his family. He was a devoted and loving Father and adoring and proud Grandfather. His children, grandchildren, dogs, relatives and special friends were very dear to him. He especially treasured living with his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren during the last years of his life. He will be greatly missed, but His memory will forever live in the minds of those he touched. SCHIAVO BARRY “BAK” Age 89, of Irwin, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 3, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 2, 1928, in Irwin, a son of the late Thomas and Lena (Pace) Schiavo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Rosemarie (Mondelli) Schiavo, along with ten brothers and sisters. Surviving are his two children, Jennifer (Rick) Tavares and John (Joni) Schiavo; four grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye, Johnny (Lacie) Tavares, Cori (Stush) Gorski, Eugene (Candace) Ferri and Kate (K.C.) Neidigh; six great- grandchildren, whom he adored and got such enjoyment out of, Tristyn and Trayce Tavares, Santino and Valentina Gorski, John Neidigh and Angelina Ferri; and several nieces and nephews. Barry was a loving and devoted husband and father. Family was everything to him as he took great pride in being there 100% and instilling family values to them. His greatest enjoyment was going to every sporting event of his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids and cheering them on from the stands. Barry proudly served his country in the US Army. He was the owner of Barry's Bar in Pitcairn for over 40 years and enjoyed working there daily alongside of his wife. He enjoyed shooting pool, playing cards with his buddies and family and watching and playing all sports. He was extremely proud of being point guard for his Irwin High School Class as they won the State Championship in basketball. Barry will be remembered for his huge heart and his great devotion to his family in which his fun, generous and loving personality will live on through all of them. GALBRAITH GERALDINE M. Age 79, of Pittsburgh, PA passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2018. Born on September 24, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Julia and Henry Wozniak. Beloved wife to the late Thomas W. Galbraith; loving mother to Nancy Cox, Wayne Galbraith, Tom (Jennifer) Galbraith, and Julianne (Sean) Brosnahan; cherished grandmother of Robert, Taylor, Caitlin, Shane, Kirsten, Hunter, Jack, Tommy, and Gracie; dear sister to Rich, Ken, Jeanie, and Debbie; sister-in-law to Karen. Geraldine was also survived by many nieces and nephews. Geraldine enjoyed gardening, traveling, cooking, and bird watching. She will always be remembered for her sarcastic sense of humor and she will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held at a later date. GOTTUS RANDALL AUGUST Age 69, of Kennedy Twp., passed unexpectedly on Thursday, January 4, 2018. Father of Christopher R. (Wendy) Gottus and Timothy E. (Melissa) Gottus; dear grandfather of Ethan, Nadia, Colin and Elijah; brother of Regis and Gerald Gottus, Sandra Krawczynsi, James Gottuso and Linda Daum. Family and friends received SUNDAY at the McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 334 Forest Grove Rd., Kennedy Twp., from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 4:00 p.m. Randy attained a Masters of Psychology and minored in music. He was characterized by a keen intellect, “unique” sense of humor, compassion for the mental and emotional needs of others, an inclination to work with his hands, and a down-to-earth, simplistic approach to daily life. His career was spent helping countless others in the Psychology field.
