STIVALA MARY C. 83, of Scranton, went peacefully on Friday afternoon, March 7, 2014. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John L. Stivala, Jr. Born July 1, 1930, in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Florentino and Mary Garcia Alvarez. Mary worked as a retail bookkeeper for several years until she established her own business, Tri-State Uniforms and Awards which she owned and operated for over 40 years. She was a very talented woman and was a quite capable seamstress and designer. She was fond of crocheting and cross-stitch crafts as well. Above all, Mary loved her family, especially her grandchildren and her many shopping excursions she shared with them. Christmas was a very special time for Mary; she loved angels and Santa Claus. She will be remembered for making “Santa-bags” for each of her grandchildren and continued the tradition into their adulthood. Mary was a remarkable woman and will be missed by many people who loved her. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Scranton Manor for providing wonderful and loving care to Mary during these past years. The family would also like to thank the staff at the VNA Hospice at Geisenger Community Medical Center for providing comfort in Mary's last hours. She is also survived by four children, John L. Stivala III and his wife, Beth of Pittsburgh, PA, Sheila M. Layo, Martin F. Stivala and his wife, Marianne, and Mark D. Stivala and his companion, Alisha, all of Scranton; eight grandchildren, John Stivala IV, Tracey Stivala, William J. Layo, Raymond N. Layo and wife, Adrienne, Lisa M. Beebe and husband, Meade, Daniel A. Layo, M.J. Stivala, and Pia Mary Stivala; two great-grandchildren, Colin and Kendall Layo; two sisters, Sylvia Galilei and her husband, Fred, and Theresa Spahr and her husband, Larry. The Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in St. John Neuman Roman Catholic Church, 633 Orchard Street, Scranton, PA 18505. PRICE ROBERT PAUL Age 78, of Baldwin Township, died on March 12, 2014. He is survived by his sweetheart, Marilyn McCance; children, Yvette (Bill) Cook, Lisa, Jesse (Rhonda) and Roberto (Astridah); and grandchildren, Christopher, Karlena, Erika, Muzah and Sue. He was widowed by the late Yvonne and leaves three siblings. He served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired with 40 years of service to the Duquesne Light Company. Bob volunteered over 20 years at the Brookline Christian Food Bank and Camp Agape, among other community organizations. He enjoyed gardening, reading about the history of stamps and coins and discussing current events on Fox News. Bob will be deeply missed but his love and thoughtful guidance will continue to be treasured. The family is especially grateful for the compassionate care provided by Family Hospice and Palliative Care. As requested, there will be no visitation or service held. LOSACCO RAYMOND B. Age 88, of West View, on Thursday, March 6, 2014. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on January 28, 1926, son of the late Nickola and Rose (Salerna) Losacco; beloved husband of the late Leslie L. Herdt, whom he married July 31, 1964. Leslie passed away on November 25, 2010. Ray was an Elementary Teacher and Principal for the North Hills School District from 1953-1990. His wife was a Music Teacher for many years in the same district. They traveled together extensively and Ray had a keen interest in all aspects of history. Mr. Losacco served during WWII with the US Infantry in the German Campaign as a rifleman and was a POW from December 17, 1944, to April 13, 1945. Shortly after his release from the German prison camp, Ray was honorably discharged from service due to his brother's death while also serving his country. SCHLEGEL EDWARD R. Age 76, passed back into the arms of God on March 11, 2014. Sadly missed by his beloved wife, Dorothy; loving father of Roche Schlegel, Renee (Gregg) Holbrook, Rhea Jamesine Simon, Rebecca (Raymond) Swiger, Rhett, and the late Rita Schlegel; precious grandfather “Grumpy” to his six beautiful granddaughters, Carly, Tessa, Gwendolyn, Madeline, Hanna, and Lexie. Ed was a proud pressman, Union Local 9 member of the Pittsburgh Press and Post Gazette for 45 years. Ed's skills as a raconteur will be remembered by his cousins and many friends.
