Daughter of the late Rev. Oliver J. Martin and Fannie Martin Graham; beloved mother of Tiffany Monique Simpson; sister of the late Oliver James Martin, Jr., and Rev. Robert William Martin, Sr.; also survived by two great-aunts, Eula Burleigh and Mary Burleigh; sisters-in-law, Jean Martin and Menther Martin; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. GARDE THOMAS HARRINGTON Age 91, of Tallahassee, died March 12, 2014, at St. Augustine Plantation. Thomas was born August 16, 1922, in Donora, PA to Timothy and Anna (Gould) Garde and moved to Tallahassee in 1979, coming from Cleveland, OH. He was an accountant for US Steel as well as past president of the US Steelworkers Union, past president of the City Council of Donora, PA, on the church council of St. Charles Catholic Church Donora, PA and was a devout member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was also a 9th WWII Army veteran and a recipient of the distinguished Purple Heart. He was united in marriage in 1970 to his wife, Elizabeth, who resides in Tallahassee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Timothy and Anna (Gould) Garde; his three sisters, Mary Timothy Garde, Mariana Garde and Kathleen Garde, all Sisters of St. Joseph; nephew, Damon Garde. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Garde, Tallahassee, FL; his daughter, Terrie (Bobby) Brooks of Tallahassee, FL; his brother, Al Garde (Rita) of Monessen, PA; and his two grandchildren, Wyatt (Amy) Brooks of Tallahassee and Hilary Brooks of Mountain View, CA; nephews and nieces, Timothy (Jill) Garde, Houston, TX, Kennedy Garde, Houston, TX, Mary Beth (John) Garde-Simpson, Monessen, PA, Kathleen Garde-Masten, Anacortes, WA, Patrick Garde, Houston, TX, James (Toni) Garde, Houston, TX. Special thanks to all the staff at St. Augustine Plantation and Michael Lyons and all the other nurses from Big Bend Hospice. GRUBER DONNA FIELDS Lifelong resident, born September 28, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Donna Fields Gruber passed away March 18, 2014, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with her youngest daughter, Holly G. Holmes, by her side. As a small business owner and medical secretary, Donna led a full and active life with her husband of 35 years, the late Thomas Preston Gruber. Together they raised three children, Holly G. Holmes, Beth G. Jackson and eldest son, Donald John Gruber. As Donna always had a way to put others first, she was a dedicated volunteer at East Liberty Presbyterian Church her entire life. She shared many passions besides her family and friends as an avid “royal watcher,” enjoyed travel, reading, collecting antiques, the art of sewing, the love of music, and most of all, the joy of her grandchildren, Colin, Oliver and Riley Holmes, Kathryn and Hannah Lohman, Michael Gruber, Sara, Daniel, Olivia and Charles Jackson. She is also survived by her younger brother, James Philips Fields of Delmont, Pennsylvania. Memorial Service is planned for later this spring. SHEPHERD WARREN DEE Age 100, of Churchill, passed away peacefully in Florida on Thursday, March 20, 2014. Beloved husband of 30 years to Doris Clarke Shepherd and the late Jean Thompson Shepherd; beloved father of Sandy (Tad) Floto, James Dee Shepherd, Tom (Michele) Shepherd, and Sue (Scott) Graham; loving stepfather of Sandra (Patrick) Kearney, Tina (Nicholas) Galli, Douglas (Gina) Clarke, and James Clarke; grandfather of Jennifer, Samantha, Katie, Jonathan, Andrew, Krystina, Meghan, Emily, Bailey, Carly, Matt, Ben, and McClane; also two great- grandchildren. Dee grew up in Ogden, UT, where he drove a dump-truck and worked in the quarries. As a young man, he enjoyed swimming and hiking. He was a Navy WWII veteran, and was stationed in a PT Boat Squadron on the island of Tulaghi in the Soloman Islands, where he fought in the Battle of Guadalcanal. A member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, he graduated from George Washington University with a degree in engineering. He was a longtime employee of Mason, Shaver and Rhodes; Westinghouse Corp.; and Parker Hunter. Dee was still active and a founding member of Churchill Rotary Club. He was a member for 75 years at the Edgewood Country Club, where he golfed, played gin, and made many lifelong friends. He was known for his joke telling, story telling, and love of card games. He also enjoyed going to parties, CLO, and spending time with his family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Interment will be private. Denise was a proud graduate and supporter of Penn State University, where she bled “blue and white.” She was a vice president at the S & T Bank corporate office, had a strong love for nature and animals, and was known for adopting horses, cats, and dogs. Denise had a strong inner strength, never compromising her character. She loved rock and roll, and enjoyed dancing with abandon. Born May 23, 1944, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Lynne is predeceased by her parents, Henry Lewis and Ruth (Colhouer) Beitzel of Pittsburgh, PA, and her daughter, Elizabeth Ann. Lynne was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and teacher. She helped many people learn to play piano and then went on to work to help many train to sit for the GED test. She had many successful students and was very proud of their accomplishments. BOFFO THOMAS LEON Thom Boffo, age 67, died on March 12, 2014, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He resided in Bridgewater with his wife, Wendy, and son, Max. Thom is also survived by his brother, Gary Boffo and wife, Cherie, in Ohio; his sister, Ellen Boffo and partner, Steve O'Neil, in California; and his brother, Jim and wife, Diane, in Rochester, PA; his niece and nephews are Whitney Boffo of Ben Avon, Rob Jackson and Chris Jackson of Beaver. Thom was president and CEO of Pittsburgh Tubular Shafting, Inc. in Rochester for the last 14 years. He had been employed there for over 30 years. Prior to PTS, Thom worked with his brothers at Boffo Motors, Inc. in New Brighton. He was a past president of the Rochester Chamber of Commerce and a board member of the Beaver Valley Montessori School. Thom will no doubt be remembered, from years passed, for his passionate involvement with performance vehicles, most infamously, in the 1970s for his AC Cobra. Thom's family is asking for the company of Thom's friends, from the past and present, at his Memorial gathering and service. MILLER SISTER ANNA MARIE Age 88, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on March 19. 2014. A Greensburg native, Sister Anna Marie entered the Sisters of Charity on January 1, 1946, from Blessed Sacrament Cathedral Parish, Greensburg. Preceded in death by her parents, John P. and Coleta (Berkmyre) Miller; a sister, Mary Margaret (Arthur) Smith; and a brother, William, she is survived by nieces and nephews. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Seton Hill University and a master's degree in education, administration from Duquesne University. Sister Anna Marie served in schools of the Greensburg and Pittsburgh dioceses and in the Archdiocese of Washington. She was principal at St. James School in Apollo, and at Holy Innocents School in Pittsburgh. She also ministered at the Seton Hill Day Care Center. In 1993, Sister Anna Marie began her ministry in the Archives of the Sisters of Charity. She also served as supervisor of environment and interior design during the building of the motherhouse. Gifted and selfless, Sister Anna Marie said of her vocation, "My religious life has brought me peace and happiness. I have been given the opportunity to serve both the community and the Church in carrying Christ to all whom we are called to serve."
