She passed this musical gift on to all of her children. Rita was an avid tennis player and observer of the sport, playing many matches with her friends Ruth and Roy, son Ray and daughter Rita Cindy and attending many of the tennis matches of the Pittsburgh Triangles in the Civic Arena. In her later years, she enjoyed her gardens around her beloved home and hosted Christmas sing-along's and regular games of Bridge. JOHN L. LEIGHT Age 82, of Glenshaw, on Monday, May 6, 2019, after suffering a stroke. Beloved husband of 43 years to Kathryn Leight; loving father of John, Jr., Dennis, Eric, Tim, Amanda, and Ashley; proud "Pap Pap" of Frances and Cecilia McCullar; dear brother of Sherman, Jr., Ralph, Reuben, and the late Edward; best-buddy and four-legged companion, Joey. John grew up with Pittsburgh. He saw the boom of industry and its decline, and the change from an empire of glass and steel to an empire of schools and hospitals. He drove Pittsburgh's progress, literally, as a forklift operator for fifty-two years at Glenshaw Glass. He pushed it through the strong times and the lean times, and when the plant closed after Hurricane Ivan and it was time to go, he locked the door when everyone else was gone. He built his home with his own two hands, learning every piece of trade he needed to make it happen. When there was work to be done for him, a neighbor, or friends, he jumped in and did it. This is the legacy John leaves to us, a willingness to learn, a willingness to help anyone in need, a sharp wit, and a big smile. Rest in peace now, you've earned it. STELLA (YOUNG) JOHNSON Age 94, of Richland Township, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Born on October 30, 1924 in Paola, Kansas, Stella met her beloved husband, Edsel Johnson, at a roller rink in Kansas during WWII. While he was serving in the Navy, she was a secretary at Sunflower Gunpowder Plant. They married on March 21, 1946. The only thing fiercer than her character was her love for her husband. They lived in Missouri, California, and Kentucky before settling in Gibsonia, PA to raise their family in Orchard Park for over 50 years. She supported her children as PTA President, a Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownie Leader and Richland High School Band Boosters President. Stella was also active as North Hills Baptist Church Secretary, a member of Eastern Star, and John Heinz's campaign volunteer in 1971. At 4'10' with bright red hair, an indomitable spirit and sharp sense of humor, her nickname was Torchy. She could put you in place as quickly as she could make you laugh and her stories were many. She was an amazing cook and a wonderful gardener. With her neighbors, she played charades or had International Dinner pot luck parties. She had a life well lived. Stella is survived by her brother, Noah Young; children, Linda Murphy (Lew), Retired Navy Captain Steve Johnson (Karen), and Peggy Tobin; her grandchildren, Brandy (Mike) Keenan, Logan Murphy, Devon Murphy, Cheryl (Marty) Machi, Matt Johnson, Erin (Bryan) Dyer, Katie Tobin, and Alex Tobin; great-grandchildren, Phineas, Eowyn, Beckett, Hobbes, Rex, Riley and Ava. FREDERICK (FRED) DONATELLI, JR. Age 87, of Ross Township, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 6, 2019. He was born on February 17, 1932, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Frederick, Sr. and Celeste Donatelli. In 1965, he founded Fred Donatelli Cemetery Memorials in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, followed by Pittsburgh Cremation Service and OakCrest Pet Crematory. These companies demonstrate his exemplary work ethic and strong commitment to the memorial industry. Fred was active with the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science (PIMS), most recently serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors. He was a member of Incarnation Parish's Finance Council, a Ross Township Commissioner, and a past President of the West View Area Kiwanis. There were many other professional organizations that benefitted from Fred's involvement and his belief in the importance of a good attitude in life. In his retirement years, Fred loved chatting with visitors at the office, enjoying lunch with his wife at Rico's Restaurant, and attending many family events. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Jo (Irwin) Kelly and seven children, Karen Callahan (Sam), Paula Kelly-Keller (Mike), Binny Tercek (Tom), Dick Kelly, Jr. (Sue), John Kelly (Carol), Tim Kelly (Tobey) and Christy Payne (Scott). He is preceded in death by his son, Eddie Kelly. Aside from being a beloved father and grandfather, Dick led a successful career as a lawyer after getting his education from Central Catholic High School (Class of 1950), Mount St. Mary's University (Class of 1954), and Duquesne University Law School (Class of 1961). He was well-known amongst friends and family for his practical jokes and exceptional sense of humor. He could frequently be found taking his family on long cross-country road trips, volunteering on the Parish Council and Commissions at St. Raphael's Parish, and in later years, supporting his grandchildren at countless dance recitals and sporting events. Cherished wife and best friend of John Burkhardt for 50 years; loving mother of Karen (Mike) Upchurch of South Fayette; dear grandmother of Sarah and Jake Upchurch; beloved cousin of Katherine Marton; best friend of Jack and Carol Myers and Ellis Hempel and family; also survived by cousins and many friends. Mary Ann and John lived their lives to the fullest by going to many festivals, on vacations and enjoying dining out. However, their best times were spent with their family. One of her most treasured memories was becoming a grandmother and watching Karen become a mother to Sarah and Jake. She was a great cook and loved to prepare Slovak dishes. Mary Ann was also a member of the Holy Trinity Altar Guild. Although Mary Ann was plagued with illness for many years, she and John loved one another unconditionally and John was her sole caregiver. MILDRED (PUSKAR) SILIANOFF "MITZI" Peacefully, on May 5, 2019, age 89, of Wilmerding. Mitzi was the devoted wife of the late Drago Baldy Silianoff. She was preceded in passing by her father, Bozo Puskar; mother, Sava (Relja) Puskar Evosevich; and stepfather, George Evosevich. She was the devoted mother of Daniel (Sandra) Silianoff, Ronald (Julie) Silianoff and Sandra Silianoff; grandmother of Seann (Jen) Correll, Dan (Tara), Amber, Hannah and Luke Silianoff; great-grandmother of Sydney, Logan, Micah and Ruby; special sister of Violet (late John) Stump; she is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and friends. She was devoted to her kids and grandchildren. She was the wonderful caregiver to her husband for 13 years. She enjoyed exercising, watching the Steelers, going to movies, and driving to Monroeville Mall to be with friends. Mitzi worked at the family bakery, as well as Westinghouse Electric in East Pittsburgh.
