BERNARD CARLTON HUGGINS May 25, 1949-March 25, 2020 Bernard Carlton Huggins departed this life on March 25, 2020. Mr. Huggins was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on May 25, 1949. He graduated from Gladstone High School where he played varsity football. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Marine Corps on July 25, 1969. A dedicated military man, Mr. Huggins served in the Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; in Arlington, Virginia; in Vietnam; and in Okinawa, Japan. While serving his country, he reared two daughters - from his 1971 marriage to Mary Wilson - Jacquelyne and Tracie. Included among his many military honors are the Rifle Marksman Badge, Meritorious Unit Citation, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Military Unit Citation. After his honorable discharge from the Marines with the rank of staff sargeant in 1988, Mr. Huggins continued his service to his country with the United States Postal Service. After 13 years, he retired from USPS in Pittsburgh. Mr. Huggins was a faithful member of his family church since childhood, Morning Star Baptist Church in Hazelwood. He had been a youth minister there at a young age. A lover of African/African American and Asian art, music, football, and travel, Mr. Huggins also doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he delighted with special trips, outings to movies and plays, and surprise joyful treats. Mr. Huggins was predeceased by his parents, Rhamey and Berklin Huggins; and by his sister, Velma Barnette. Left to celebrate the life of Mr. Huggins are daughters, Eunice Mitchell, Dionne Hines, Jacquelyne Hill (Robert), and Tracie Huggins, all of Pittsburgh; grandsons, LaRon Beck and Derian West; granddaughters, Jacqui B Huggins Lowe and Alexis Huggins; great-grandson, Amir Ross; great-granddaughters, Aniya Outlaw, LeAsia Davis, and LaRyah Beck; as well as his elder sister Geralene Acklin Price (Thomas). He will also be missed by many nephews/grandnephews and nieces/grandnieces, and other relatives, in addition to numerous friends across the Pittsburgh region and beyond. A. ROY McCULLY, SR. A. Roy McCully, Sr., age 91, of Smicksburg, died Friday, March 27, 2020 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was born in 1928, Allegheny Co., to Alvin Harry and Mildred Violet Berg McCully. Roy was self-employed as a cement contractor for 40 years before his retirement in 1990. He resided in North Mahoning Twp. for the past 54 years. He had also been a previous resident of Elderton, Shelocta and Penn Hills. Roy was a member of the Punxsutawney Country Club where he enjoyed golfing. He also enjoyed hunting, traveling and reading, especially Cowboy books. Surviving are two daughters and four sons, Arlene Bell and husband Raymond, Canutillo, TX; A. Roy, Jr., Apache Junction, AZ; Gale Sherwood and husband Frank, Mahaffey, Bobby and wife Jane, Tempe, AZ; Kerry and wife Hope, Smicksburg; James and wife Carolyn, Smicksburg, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemarie Wallace McCully in 2012, and by three brothers, Donald, Dale and William G. McCully. Funeral services are private. KAY EBBERT CHILDS BISSELL On Saturday, March 28, 2020, age 77 years of Verona, PA, formerly of Point Breeze. Kay Ebbert Childs Bissell, daughter of the late Lowrie Childs Wurts Ebbert and George Singer Ebbert, Jr. Survived by her husband of 31 years, G. William Bissell, sons, John Jay Burgwin Childs, Jr. (Rebekah) and George W. Childs (Miya) and daughter, Louise Kay Childs Woodside (Nevin). Their father, John Burgwin Childs, predeceased her in 1974. Kay is also survived by her sisters, Genevieve Gez Miéville Ebbert and Lowrie Childs Ebbert Reiter. Kay was devoted to her children, seven grandchildren, her many nieces and nephews, as well as her great-nieces and nephews. Kay was born and raised in Pittsburgh, attended The Ellis School and graduated from Garrison Forest School outside Baltimore, MD in 1960. She later attended Briarcliff Manor Junior College in New York. She married John Burgwin Childs of Pittsburgh on August 25, 1962 and joined him at Salisbury School, in Connecticut. Their three children were born there. After John's passing, Kay returned home to Pittsburgh with her children to be nearer to family. Kay soon became the Administrative Assistant to the Head of School at Shady Side Academy Junior School, a position she transcended for 28 years, serving five different Heads. Kay was a sixth-generation member of Calvary Episcopal Church, where she was baptized, confirmed and married. Her love of choral music began when she was a member of Calvary's youth choir under the direction of Donald G. Wilkins, and she fostered a love of music in her children. She served on Parish Council, as Secretary of the Vestry and Co-Chair of the Stewardship Campaign. She often worked on the Women of Calvary Holiday Bazaar. After retirement, Kay reveled in her role as grandmother, welcoming her grandchildren into her kitchen for a snack and a chat after school. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames, The Pittsburgh Golf Club and the Twentieth Century Club. ANTHONY WALTER "TONY" EXLER Age 77, of Norwich, passed away Wednesday morning, March 25, 2020, at Genesis Hospital Emergency Room. He was born January 5, 1943 in Pittsburgh to the late Francis (Marion) Exler and Marie Godwin. Tony retired from Centria after many years of service. He was a 1960 graduate of Bridgeville High School. Tony was a lifetime member of the Elks, the NRA, the Zanesville Rifle Club, and a lifetime member of the Collier Sportsman's Club. He was Presbyterian by faith. In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by brother, Fred Exler and son-in-law, Terry Grywalski. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Godwin) Exler, whom he married December 1, 1967; daughters, Tammy (Rob) Yurco of Cambridge and Traci Grywalski of New Concord; grandchildren, Austin Miller and wife, Kim of Utah, Clayton Neal and wife, Hope of New Concord, Tanner Yurco, Lane Yurco, Waverly Yurco and Mitchell Yurco all of Cambridge; sister, Janet (Stan) Leghorn of Bridgeville, PA; brother, Frank Exler of Bridgeville, PA; half-siblings, Kathy, James, and Chris of Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews and many friends. WILLIAM C. KRAJOVIC Age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 29, 2020 with family by his side. Bill was born on December 8, 1927 in Lawrenceville, PA, son of the late Emerick and Veronica Turak Krajcovic. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 10 siblings, Joseph Krajcovic, Stephen McKay, Andrew Kravic, Margaret Krajcovic, James Krajcovic, John Krajcovic, Frances Krajcovic, Richard Krajcovic, Mary Krajcovic Tijak, and Veronica Krajcovic Sovec Farr; and his son-in-law, Gary Kupniewski of Erie. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Marjorie A. Litterine Krajovic; his four children, David W. Krajovic (Pat) of Detroit, MI, Michael W. Krajovic (Lucy) of Lake Geneva, WI, Marjorie J. Kupniewski of Erie, and Barbara K. Weber (John) of Erie, 10 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews. Bill loved the outdoors, especially being on the river. As a young man, he canoed 1300 miles down the Mississippi, from Pittsburgh to New Orleans. In 1967, he was selected as a river guide for Senator Robert Kennedy, a young Caroline Kennedy, Secretary of Interior Stuart Udal and James Whitaker, the first American to climb Mt. Everest, on a white water rafting trip down the Hudson River. In 1953, Bill moved to Greensburg, PA and founded Clear-Pane Window Cleaning Company with some ladders, a few buckets and a willingness to work. Two years later, he married Marjorie; from the moment he first saw her, she was the love of his life. They worked together for 50 years and expanded the company to include Associated Cleaning Services. He retired at age 73. At an early age, Bill quit school to help support the family. He was a self-educated man. Determined to see his children receive a good education, he saved and put all four children through college. He was passionate about how food affects one's health; he enjoyed organic gardening, made cold pressed juices at home and was always willing to share his knowledge about wellness. With a good education and attention to health, his greatest joy was knowing he gave his children and grandchildren a good start for a better and healthier life. Due to national guidelines on limiting public gatherings, a celebration Mass and interment will be scheduled in Greensburg, PA at the convenience of the family. Edward earned his bachelor's degree in business from the University of Pittsburgh and his master's degree in social work from West Virginia University. He also volunteered at McKeesport Hospital for over 24 years. ROBERT W. "BOB" ELLIOTT October 19, 1924 to March 30, 2020 Age 95, of Solomons Island, Maryland, on Monday, March 30, 2020. Born on October 19, 1924, to the late Martin and Elizabeth Elliott in Quincy, Massachusetts; brother of the late Rita, the late Madeline, the late Viola, the late Margaret, and the late Leo. Devoted husband of the late Betty Elliott and survived by children, Robert, Jim (Brooke), and Susan Allison (Dale); and grandchildren, Steven, Mackenzie, Elizabeth, and Margaret. In WWII, Bob flew 31 combat missions including one where the crew had to bail out behind enemy lines and returned after 30 days missing in action. He lived in Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania for most of his life where he enjoyed a successful career in real estate sales. He is remembered fondly by so many friends and relatives for his unmatched humor, his comradery on the golf course, and for his music as a self-taught jazz pianist. DR. RONALD R. SEPIC Age 75 years of Uniontown, PA went home to be with the Lord at home with his family at his side, on Saturday, March 28, 2020. He was born February 7, 1945 in Uniontown, son to Frank Sepic and Nellie (Lebder) Sepic. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers-in-law, John Pensock and Calvin Thomas. Dr. Ron is survived by his wife of 54 years, Susan M. McMillan Sepic; these children and grandchildren, Ronald R. Sepic, Jr. and wife, Christina of Hopwood, PA and their daughters, Jessica, Emily, and Anna, Dr. Christopher A. Sepic of Farmington PA, and Lynn S. Hime and husband, Shandon of Morgantown, WV and their sons, Caleb and Jacob; two sisters, Marlene Pensock and Patricia Thomas both of Uniontown, and a brother, Melvyn Sepic and wife, Diane of Uniontown. Ron was a graduate of Uniontown High School in 1963, where he was an accomplished athlete. In 1967 he graduated from the Ohio State University where he played collegiate basketball for the Buckeyes. He graduated from the Ohio State University College of Dental Medicine in 1971, and then continued his post graduate degree in Orthodontics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Sepic opened his practice in Uniontown and Pittsburgh in 1974 and continued his practice for 44 years until his retirement in 2018. Throughout Ron's life, the Sepic home was available to many Bible studies, visiting pastors and Missionaries. It was not uncommon for Ron to lend a helping hand to those going through trying times and difficult situations. To all those who knew him, whether professionally or socially, his deep faith and love for the Lord was always visibly apparent. He was a faithful member of Abundant Life Church in Uniontown where he taught men's Bible studies. During his prolonged battle with cancer, Ron's faith never wavered. He was comforted by his faith and trust, knowing the Lord was with him as he proceeded through many treatments and stages of his cancer, praying that the Lord would be glorified by his actions regardless of the outcome. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Mounzer Agha and his team at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center for their compassion and deep concern throughout his treatment. At the recommendation of the CDC, a celebration of Dr. Ron's life will be held at a future date to be determined. Ron had a passion for helping others and a love for basketball. EUGENE "GENE" POLACEK Of Ft. Myers, FL, formerly of East Pittsburgh, age 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2020. Gene was a great husband, father, and friend. Born on May 28, 1943, in North Braddock, he was the son of the late George Polacek and late Mary Pluebell. Beloved husband of 56 years to Vicki (Morenzi) Polacek and loving father of Rob (Shannon) Polacek of Plum and Brad (Ashlee) Polacek of Fort Myers. He was a wonderful grandfather to Nathan, Riley, and Kaden; brother of Bill (Adrian) Polacek, Ron (Maureen) Polacek, and Jim (Sue) Polacek. He is survived by many special nieces and nephews. Gene retired from Westinghouse Research and Development Center in Churchill as a plumber with 24 years of service. He then moved to Florida to work as a plumber for a commercial plumbing company and the Holiday Inn on Sanibel Island. Gene retired to spend time golfing and to be with family and friends. Gene served in the Navy on the USS Essex (CV-9) Carrier. He was a member of the East Pittsburgh Fire Department and the East Pittsburgh VFW Post 5008. As a sideline, Gene was also a master at changing out transmissions in front of his house. He was very loved and will be unbelievably missed. May he rest in peace. JOANN RITA PARZICK JoAnn Rita Parzick, age 82, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on the night of March 29, 2020. She was predeceased by her husband, John Parzick; and is survived by her brother, Lou Stellute; and her loving children, Connie Ambrosio and John Parzick. JoAnn was adored by her adult grandchildren, Alaina Mei and her husband Leo and Carey Gotti and her husband Alexandre; and her youngest grandson, Bryce Parzick. She was a loving great-grandmother to Thomas Mei, Lucia Mei and Atlas Gotti, and was anxiously awaiting her fourth great-grandchild, a soon-to-be-born baby girl Gotti. A nurse for over 30 years, she subscribed to the notion that being a nurse is not "what you do," it is "who you are," and she often liked to refer proudly to herself and other nurses as "women of science." JoAnn rose from the nursing ranks to become a Home Health Care Administration executive in the latter part of her career. She also edited nursing professional journals. JoAnn's big belly-laugh, her chic fashion sense and her soup that fed many souls will be missed dearly by her family and her many friends throughout the Pittsburgh area. Cherished grandmother of Jason and Scott Field, Antionette VanKirk.Treasured sister of Kathleen (George) Peña, Uvalde, TX. Dear daughter of the late Stanley and Dorothy Bielak. Loving sister-in-Law of Lydia and Joseph Selbka, Phillip and Patti Lazzara, and Jack Lazzara. Caring aunt of many nieces and nephews, and devoted to her several cousins. Barbara was born in Chicago, IL on April 5, 1942. She attended Saint Alexis Grade School and Fenton High School in Bensenville IL. She went on to college at Northern Illinois University, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Education and met her future husband, Charles Lazzara. She was a special education teacher for several years at Elgin State Hospital IL prior to starting a family. In 1971 she moved with her husband and daughter to Pittsburgh, PA. Barbara was dedicated to her family, her church and her community. From a young age she was involved in the Bensenville, IL VFW and participated in the Tioga Auxilliary Girl Scouts Drill Team. She was a good swimmer and swam on a synchronized swim team. She was also an excellent skater and spent many happy hours at the roller rink and ice rink. She was a Girl Scout in Troop 81, Bensenville. She continued working with the Girl Scouts through the years, first as the Leader of her daughter's Brownie Troop, working her way up until she was Secretary of the Board for South-Western PA. She was also very involved in her church, Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. She sang for many years in the Wisdom Folk Choir, helped decorate the church for the changing seasons, and was a member of the Senior Citizens group. She was an avid reader and frequent visitor to the local library, where she displayed her collections of fans and teapots. Barbara bowled on a Ladies Bowling League for many years and was a top bowler, earning a number of trophies. She was also great at sewing, like her mother and grandmother before her. In addition to sewing beautiful clothes and costumes for herself and her family, she also sewed items for the church, and for her daughter's Junior Tamburitzan and International Dance groups. She was able to take several wonderful trips with her husband, and loved spending time with her family and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2020 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., for family members only, at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. Because of restrictions due to the coronavirus outbreak, a public viewing and Funeral Mass will not be held at this time, but a memorial service and Mass will be scheduled when friends and family can safely travel and gather. A private burial will take place at Orcutt's Grove Cemetery in Noxen, PA. THERESA M. (ANDERSON) SCHUBERT "TERRY" Of Troy Hill, born on August 14, 1943 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at the age of 76. Daughter of the late William and Marie Andrisevic. She was a devoted wife to her husband, the late Richard R. (Dick) Schubert, a loving mother to her children; Richard J. (Janet) Schubert, Cynthia (Steve) Moylan, and Deborah (Bryan) Schmersal; as well as a proud Grandma to her grandchildren, Nicklaus and Chelsea Schubert. She is survived by one sister and three brothers and many nieces and nephews. Services are being held privately at this time due to the current COVID-19 restrictions. Terry retired from Sears Roebuck and Co in 2004. She was a member of Most Holy Name Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was also a member of the Christian Mothers. Terry loved spending time with her husband and her family. She loved to travel with her husband Dick and two of her favorite places were Las Vegas and the Caribbean. Terry also liked watching sports on TV, grilling out on her deck, and playing cards. Beloved husband of the late Margaret for 57 years; loving father of Marisa McLelland and Fred (Nina) Tarquinio; devoted grandfather of Michael, Ross, and Ashley McLelland, and Santino and Giovani Tarquinio; dear brother of the late Robert (Rose) Tarquinio, Lucy (Frank) Ferraro, Clara (Syl) Paladino and Anna (Bill) Presutti; cherished uncle and friend of many.
