THOMAS DOUGLAS SUTTER Age 99 of Baldwin, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020, beloved husband of Irene Graham Sutter. Also survived by brother, Richard (Helen) Sutter of Sarasota; daughters, Barbara Bardo of South Park, Diane (Alexandra) Sutter of Worcester, MA, Mary (Doug) Beck of Coraopolis, PA; sons, Mark (Aileen) Sutter of Chapel Hill, NC, Tim (Michelle) Graham of Pittsburgh, PA, and Eric (Laurie) Graham of Austin, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Charlotte Graham, Stanley Graham, Zac Graham, Prescott Sutter, Weston Sutter, Andrew Beck, Amanda Sutter, Elizabeth Beck, Zoe Graham, Adam Sutter, and Aiden Beck; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Krieger; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents, Thomas and Mary Sutter; brother, William sisters, Margaret and Jeanne; and late wife, Florence (Dolly) Sutter. A veteran of WWII, he served in the Army Air Corps. Later, he had a distinguished career with the Bettis Atomic Power Plant as an engineer, author of manuals for the operation of nuclear submarines, and teacher of naval submarine crews. In service to his community, Mr. Sutter was a board member of the St. Peter's Child Development Center and a past president of Brentwood-Whitehall Kiwanis. He was an avid bird watcher and nature lover and could often be found on his screened-in porch, enjoying the gifts of the natural world. He also was a world traveler with his wife Irene, avid theater goer, reader, gardener, and wood worker. Many family and friends have been gifted by his bird houses and feeders. Tom Sutter was a kind, gentle soul who was the best role model on how to live one's life with joy and compassion. His motto was "Lucky Me!" but we, his family and friends, were the lucky ones to have his presence in our lives. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Recently retired, he finished a distinguished blue-collar career spanning over 40 years for Allegheny County and Pittsburgh International Airport. JB always met you with an open hand and left you with a great story. A confirmed bibliophile he was never without a book, magazine or newspaper to read. He was an enthusiastic collector of military memorabilia, a radical fan of Rock and Roll and an expert in civilian aviation. He will be missed by his many friends and fans. JUDY ANN (DAVIS) FALCE On Friday, April 24, 2020, Judy Ann (Davis) Falce passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Survived by her husband, Dr. William Falce, Jr. and children, Billy Ray (Heather and daughter Maya) Falce and Cortney McLean Falce (David) Williams. Preceded in death by her parents, Ray D. and Dolores (McShane) Davis. Judy was a caring, creative, intelligent, and vivacious woman. She treated everyone she met as a friend. Judy had an infectious smile and radiated a love of life. Judy was a woman whose style and manner embodied the grace of earlier times, and she often took the time to send hand-written notes to those who were in her thoughts. A graduate of Duff's Business School, Judy's early professional experience included working as a secretary at the Pittsburgh City Morgue. After moving to Bethel Park, Judy impacted the community in many ways. When she was employed by the Bethel Park Recreation Department in the 1970's and early 1980's, Judy helped to create numerous arts and athletic programs, as well as the daycare program. As a proud wife, she enjoyed assisting her husband with his Bethel Park Track and Cross-Country meets and banquets. As a Bethel Park parent, she was a member of the committee that started the Independence Middle School Teen Center. Judy and Bill owned Heather's Flowers in Bethel Park from 1984-1998. Judy took pride in designing innovative and dynamic floral creations that were a part of many special moments in her customer's lives. Among the many committees and organizations in which she participated as a business owner, Judy proudly served as a member of the Bethel Park Community Foundation and was the President of the South Hills Chamber of Commerce. After selling the flower shop, Judy continued to share her floral talent with family and friends. From 1998-2010, Judy was proud to work for Beinhauer Family Funeral Homes. In particular, as the Public Relations Professional and After Care Coordinator, Judy felt honored to offer her assistance to grieving families. During 2012-2019, Judy was a creative force and inspiration behind the Bethel Park High School Fall Plays. ANDREW MEHALIC, JR. Andrew, 87, of Oakdale, formerly of Imperial, died Tuesday, April 28, 2020 in his home. He was born on April 8, 1933, in Imperial, a son of the late Andrew Mehalic, Sr. and Minnie Woldinski. Mr. Mehalic was a proud Korean War Army Veteran. Prior to retirement he was employed as a crane operator at Union Electric Steel Co. He enjoyed golfing, collecting guns and was a gun shooter - not hunter. He was an award-winning athlete at West Allegheny High School. He also enjoyed recreational flying and owned his own plane at one time. Surviving are his daughters, Shari Mehalic of McDonald, Janene (Dale) Masquelier of McDonald and Andrea (Darrin) Cinna of Oakdale; grandchildren, Neil Masquelier, Cydnee (Michael) Allen, Jon Cinna, Dena (Jay) Teyssier, Jace Cinna and William Cinna. Also surviving are his great-grandchildren, Scout Allen, Dylan Teyssier, and Kasey Teyssier. He was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Maximovich and his twin brother, William Mehalic. LEONARD C. LEHMAN, JR. Age 75, of Clairton, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2020 at Southwestern Nursing Center. He was a retired teacher in the Franklin Regional School District. A 1963 graduate of Clairton High School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, he was a member of Wilson Presbyterian Church in Clairton. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his pup, Whooly. He belonged to many gardening, horticulture, and scientific groups including Men's Gardening Club of Pittsburgh, Daylily Society, Penn State Horticulture, Phipps Conservatory, and many more. Born March 1, 1945 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late Leonard C. Lehman Sr. and the late Minnie Marie (Rippel) Lehman. He is survived by his aunts, Lois R. Laird of Bentleyville and Lucy Rippel of Forward Twp.; also, numerous cousins. No visitation is planned. Private funeral service with Pastor Ben Robinson officiating is at the PAUL E. VALENTINA ZYCH Age 98, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 26, 2020. She was born January 3, 1922 in Ukraine to Stephanie (Jaskiewicz) Sadowski and Johann Sadowksi. She experienced tremendous hardship as a Polish-Ukranian refugee in Eastern Europe during the Holocaust. In 1956, she immigrated from Vienna, Austria with her husband Wladylsaw Zych and son, with the support of her longest and dearest friend, Sophia Pollak. She resided for 45 years on Polish Hill alongside beloved neighbors, before moving to O'Hara Township to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Valentina valued education as the path to greater success and freedom, especially for women. She graduated with a B.A. in 1941 from Tara Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and a Masters in 1965 and Ph.D. in 1974 from the University of Pittsburgh. She was an instructor of Slavic Languages and Literatures at Pittsburgh's universities for 30 years until retiring in 1994. A lifelong learner, she could always be found with a book in her hands, and she adored seeing the flowers bloom every spring. Valentina is survived by her two children, Eleonora Zych and her husband, Carl Trakofler, Jr., and Steve Zych and his wife, Jenny Zych; her grandchildren, Carly Trakofler Ferrone and Walter Zych; her dearest friend, Sophia Pollak and her children, Maggie, Alex, and Bobby. DOROTHY A. CUCURAS Dorothy Cucuras, of Pittsburgh passed in her sleep on April 28, 2020, at her daughter's residence in Cochranton, PA. She was born in Weirton, WV, the daughter of Isideros and Argetta Maris Apesos. She married Nick Savakis in 1950 and moved to Warren, Ohio and later married Nick Cucuras. She is survived by three children: Karen (Alex) Bournias of Cochranton, Arnette (George) Georges of Pittsburgh, and Angelo (Leah) Savakis of South Russell, Ohio. Dorothy is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-granddaughters, and a brother Mike Apesos of Weirton, VW. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by both husbands; and four brothers, Tom, Bill, Ted and Chris. Private services will be held at St. George Chapel in Pittsburgh. JOSEPH M. KISSANE Age 89, of NYC, passed away from COVID-19 on April 19, 2020. He was born on December 4, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late Joseph, Jr. and Kathryn E. Kissane. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathryn A. and brother, Michael A. He is survived by sister, Marianne DeBarbadillo (Jack) of West Virginia and brother, Thomas of Pittsburgh as well as 10 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews who were greatly loved. Joseph was a graduate of Central Catholic and Duquesne University and served in Korea as a 2nd lieutenant. After his service he continued his education at Columbia University, earning his Masters and PhD in 17th Century English Literature. He worked at Columbia, first as an instructor and then as an administrator, retiring in 1997. Joe enjoyed traveling, with England being his favorite destination. Joe helped at a soup kitchen in his neighborhood and was always caring for the less fortunate. Joe enjoyed the theaters of New York, including the Theatre for a New Audience, the Roundabout Theatre Company, The Irish Repertory, and of course on and off Broadway. Joe was a man of wisdom and compassion with a great sense of humor. He will be missed by his family and his many friends in NY and London. A memorial service will be held in the future.
