HELEN FRANCES BURNS Helen Frances Burns, age 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 26th. She was a longtime resident of Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania, a member of St. Thomas More Church, and the wife of the late Joseph S. Burns, owner of Burns Industrial Equipment. Helen was born in Philadelphia on June 10, 1924, to Helen (Connell) Keough and James Keough. She graduated from Little Flower High School in 1942, where she excelled in English literature and developed her love of poetry. As a young woman, Helen worked for the Signal Corps during WW II as a typist in the intelligence division. She met her husband of 54 years, Joseph S. Burns, at the Jersey Shore in the summer after the War, and they married in June,1948. After living in Michigan for five years, they settled in Pittsburgh, where Joe's work with Yale Industrial Trucks eventually led Helen and Joe to establish a family owned business that still thrives today. Her greatest role in life was that of a mother. Helen and Joe were the proud Irish Catholic parents of ten children, to whom she provided unwavering love and support. Helen enjoyed reading, especially poetry, and passed her love of literature on to her children and grandchildren. Helen loved sharing weekends and holidays at home with her family. She could often be heard singing or humming in the kitchen, where she kept an endless supply of peppermint patties for her beloved grandchildren. She will be remembered for her kindness, patience, and gentle spirit. Her calming presence provided stability for the entire family. Helen will be missed greatly by her family, including her young great-grandchildren, who were a source of joy to her in her final years. A Catholic funeral Mass will be held for Helen at St. Thomas More Church. Due to Covid restrictions the funeral will be private. KATHERINE RAE WILSON With her family at her side on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, Katherine, best known as Katie to her family and friends and Aunt Kay Kay to her cherished nieces and nephews, left us with a lifetime of smiles and memories when she suddenly lost her quiet battle with a very aggressive form of Melanoma. Katie fought with calmness, grace and great emotional strength, traits that characterized her entire life. She is survived by her mother and father, Mary Ann and Ray Wilson; her sister-friends, Jamie Van Lenten and Lindsey Soxman; Jamie's husband, John, and children, Cooper, Emily and Luke; Lindsey's husband, Doug, and children, Hailey, Natalie, and Lucy; her countless friends and her beloved Great Dane, Jax. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Raymond and Shirley Wilson and Catherine and Joseph Janiec. Katie was an amazing woman, loved dearly by her parents, sister-friends, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and countless friends. Her unique sense of humor was what everyone loved the most about her. She was loving, funny, gentle, emotionally strong, smart, athletic and beautiful on the inside and outside with the sweetest soul. Katie cherished her family, her friends and absolutely adored her nieces and nephews. She was a dog mom who loved her Great Dane, Jackson/Jax beyond words. Katie was a joy to be around and brought smiles to everyone close to her. She enjoyed family get togethers and family vacations where she loved games and playing ping pong with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. Some of her favorite times were spent with her sisters on sister dates where they could all be their true selves. Katie was born March 2, 1987. When she was born, her dad predicted that she and her two sisters would become the best of friends and they certainly did. She graduated from Deer Lakes High School where she excelled in volleyball and accumulated a great number of friends that she kept close to for the rest of her life. Katie graduated from Kent State with an accounting degree and worked at Mod Cloth for the majority of her career. Once again, she made numerous friends in college and at work. She had many close friends, too many to mention but Lexi and Chris held special places in her heart with their love and support though her adult life. Katie was private and sometimes shy and we know that she would be mortified to be the center of attention and would not be a fan of our out pouring of love and admiration for her. However, she leaves such a big hole in our lives it would be impossible not to express what she meant to us. There will be visitation from Noon to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020, at KING FUNERAL HOME, 2841 Woodland Circle, Allison Park, PA 15101. We ask that strict COVID restrictions be followed as there are members of her family who are at risk. As much as we would love to hug you (even though Katie really did not like hugs), please know that we will feel your love just by being there. Please visit www.kingfuneralhome.com and add your memories of her to help comfort her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Cystic Fibrosis in her name https://give.cff.org/tribute/KatieWilson?tab=MyPage. It is a cause that was very important to her. We plan to have a memorial this summer to celebrate her life and hopefully post our video collage of her online. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
