McCAULLEY FR. NEIL (CORNELIUS W.) On Saturday, June 28, 2014, born November 22, 1939, at Mercy Hospital. Only son of Frances Agnes Baumgarten and Cornelius J. McCaulley. He went to St. Agnes grade school in Oakland, Bethel High school, St. Gregory's Seminary in Cincinnati, St. Vincent's in Latrobe, and St. Mary's in Baltimore. He was ordained a Priest on May 14, 1966, by Bishop John Wright. His First assignment was St. Mary's of the Mount for five years, St. Alphonsus Springdale for one and a half years, Immaculate Conception Washington, PA for one and a half years, and team Ministry with Fr. Mark Glasgow at St. Louis in West Sunbury, St. Alphonsus in Murinsville, Epiphany in Boyers, and St. Pascal's in Argentine. Mark and Neil worked together for five and a half years, also with three sisters of St. Joseph. From 1980- 82, Fr. Neil was president of the National Federation of the Priests Councils, he lived in Chicago and traveled around the country meeting Priests and Bishops and church leaders. In 1982, he returned to Pittsburgh, and was assistant Pastor at Nativity in the North Side with Fr. Morgan Walsh for one and a half years. In 1984, he went to Pastor at St. Joseph's (St. Marks) in Port Vue, working as a team with Sr. Mary Theresa Leitem, O.S.F for ten years when the parish was merged. Fr. Neil and Sr. Mary Theresa went to Sr. Stephen's in Hazelwood for 16 years. These two pastorates were very satisfying work. These people were truly wonderful. At 70 years of age, Fr. Neil retired and moved to Sr. Mary's of the point and Epiphany, Uptown, and heard confessions and celebrated mass. It was truly a gift of God to be able to do this ministry in retirement. Throughout his life as a priest, Fr. Neil worked with the association of Pittsburgh Priests (A.P.P) to pursue the church to reform sought by Vatican Council II, as well as the ministry of justice and peace emphasized so strongly by Vatican II. He leaves all his beloved parishioners from each parish, all his friends, and his adopted family and cousins. Friends will be received Wednesday from 12 noon until 6 p.m. in the EDWARD P. KANAI FUNERAL HOME, 500 Greenfield Ave., followed by Translation Service in St. Stephen Church at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will then continue until 9:00 p.m., beginning again on Thursday at 8:00 a.m., until time of Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., which will be celebrated by Bishop David Zubik.
