SHANK IONA S. Age 103, of Moon Township, formerly of Crescent, passed on Sunday, November 30, 2014. Born in Jewette, Ohio on Dec. 6, 1910, daughter of the late Charles LeRoy and Sarah Jane (Conaway) Strausbaugh. She moved to Carnegie, PA when she was three years old. She earned a bachelor of science in chemistry and a master's of letters in education from the University of Pittsburgh. She worked as a chemist before becoming a 3rd grade teacher in Carnegie. Iona married Dr. Earl Shank and they resided in Glenwillard, PA. She has been a longtime member of Riverdale Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, Sunday school teacher and Bible study leader. Iona loved poetry and has written many poems over the years and also wrote a booklet of poems inspired by the Book of Acts. In addition to writing poetry, Iona loved to do oil painting and has painted many portraits and landscapes. Iona had been living in Moon Township for the last six years with her longtime friend, Victoria Anderson and family.
