MONTARTI THOMAS F. "TOM" Age 72, of Cranberry Township, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2013 in the comfort of his home. Born May 29, 1941 in Sharpsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Phyllis (Gallo) Montarti. Tom enjoyed working as a truck driver for over 50 years. More recently, he was also employed by Shop & Save on Freedom Road in Cranberry Township. An avid fan of Steelers and Penn State football, he loved fishing, playing softball and gardening. Above all, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Delduca; his three children, Brian Montarti and his wife, Lori, of Elizabeth Township, Lisa Montarti and her companion, Doug Hughes, of Littleton, CO, and Eric Montarti and his wife, Tracy, of Dormont; his three stepsons, Michael Delduca and his wife, Amy, of Cranberry Township, Mark Delduca and his wife, Melanie, of Evans City, and Adam Delduca and his wife, Christina, of Cranberry Township; his brother, David Montarti of Etna; nine grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and numerous friends. Services are to be held privately by Tom's family. McABEE CHARLES RUSSELL, Sr. 101, of Churchill, Pennsylvania, departed this life on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, in the UPMC Shadyside Hospital. He was formerly of Herminie. He was born January 13, 1912 in Mt. Pleasant, PA, son of the late Clayton and Roberta Meigs McAbee. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Thelma White McAbee; and brother, Clifford McAbee. He was a member and Sunday School teacher at the Second Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant. He came from a family with strong musical roots and he and his brother formed their first band while attending high school. He married his late wife, Thelma Ella Beatrice White and to this union, four children were born. She died in 1991. He worked for the Dick Corporation, the General Tire Jeannette factory until it shutdown and United States Steel Corporation Clairton Works. He then became the timekeeper for Chambers Development where he retired with 25 years of service. Surviving are his children, Charlene R. McAbee and Cheryl R. McAbee, both of Churchill, Charles R. McAbee, Jr. of Homewood, and Clifford R. McAbee of Pottstown, PA; two granddaughters, Cecily Peters of Bowie, MD and Lisa (Bryan) Peterson of Raleigh, NC; four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and others who loved him. Friends will be received Monday, Sept. 2, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. at the ROBERT A. RILEY JOHN FRANCIS BIRD Age 84, on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, of Whitehall, formerly of Carrick, after a courageous battle with heart disease. John was born on March 6, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA, the middle child of the late George and Eleanor (Wunderlich) Riley. John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Jean (Jonocco) Riley; three children, Dennis of Brentwood, Mark (Rachel) of Upper St. Clair, and Nancy Riley (Frank) Offenbacher of Douglasville, GA. John is also survived by his four grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Connor and Lexie Riley and Ethan and Erika Offenbacher; also survived by his sister, Barbara Eleanor Collins. John suspended his high school education to enlist in the U.S. Navy, serving from April 8, 1946 - February 4, 1948 as a Radio Operator and received the World War II Victory Medal. He completed his education and graduated from St. Mary of the Mount in Mt. Washington in 1949. Upon graduation, John joined the Air Force Reserves and served from October 15, 1950 - August 22, 1952 and received the Korean Service Medal. John spent his professional career at Duquesne Light Company where he worked for 38 years, retiring in 1991. He worked as Line Crew Leader/Pole Top. Friends will be received at the JOHN F. DeCESARE THOMAS J. 80, formerly of Forest Hills, PA, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in New Waterford, Ohio. Thomas was born on September 24, 1932 in Swissvale, PA to parents, Nicholas and Mary DeCesare. After graduating from Swissvale High School, he apprenticed at his father's company, Fabricators Service. Tom went on to work at Swindell Dressler in Pittsburgh, PA and U.S. Steel in Braddock, PA, then started the engineering department at Eichley Corp. in Pittsburgh, where he was project manager in both engineering and construction. In earlier years, Tom ran the baseball leagues for both boys and girls in Forest Hills, PA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a community volunteer at the parks and veterans Administration in Forest Hills, PA and Seminole, FL. Tom liked to golf and loved to play pool at the senior center in Pinellas Park, FL. He also enjoyed playing cards and performing magic tricks for children. Tom is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Barrett DeCesare; and his children, Tami (Robert) Harris, Thomas (Katherine) DeCesare, Janet (George) DeCesare-Faber, and Nicholas (Susan) DeCesare. Surviving also are his grandchildren, Gregory and Mark Harris, Amanda and Allison DeCesare, and Thomas, George and Olivia DeCesare. Tom also leaves his brother, Francis (Jeanne) DeCesare. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard DeCesare; sister-in-law, Helen DeCesare; and his grandson, Jaison Thomas Harris. BERSCHNEIDER CLIFFORD J. Age 96, of Penn Hills, passed away on August 28, 2013. He was born in Summerhill, PA, the son of the late John I. and Mary Berschneider. The family, which included one brother and five sisters, moved to Pittsburgh, where he attended Holy Rosary Grade School, Central Catholic High School and Duquesne University. He got his Master's degree at the University of Pennsylvania and taught history at Colby College in Waterville Maine for 36 years. He retired to the Penn Hills home that he had built for his parents. He was an active member of Holy Rosary Parish, later to become St. Charles Lwanga, and remained involved with various church ministries while his health and age allowed. He is survived by his nephew, Karl M. Hufnagle; many other nephews and nieces; as well as grand and great- grandnephews and nieces. We will all miss our beloved uncle and family patriarch.
