MOHR DAVID "DAVE" F. Age 85, of O'Hara Township, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria A. (Cricks); children, David R. and Barbara A. (James) Sivestri; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Dave lived in the Pittsburgh area his entire life, and resided with Gloria and his children in O'Hara Township since 1962. He had a knack for working with his hands and finish carpentry. He spent many years in business for himself as a master carpenter making furniture and cabinetry for local residents and some businesses. Dave decided to hang up his hammer at age 82. MILLER JOHN C. Age 89, of Moon Twp., passed away at Sewickley Valley Hospital on Monday, March 16, 2015. Born in Millersburg, PA on May 9, 1925, he was the son of Harry Miller and Virgie Miller Musser. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Betty L. (Drawbaugh), whom he married on June 30, 1951; loving sons, Mark (Stacey) and Neil (Amy); two grandchildren (to Mark and Stacey), Trevor and Erica; sister, Nancy (Bill) Boyer and sons, Steve, Brad and Mike; sister, the late Evelyn Walborn and children, Nolan, David, Carolyn and Christine. John C. Miller of Moon Township, PA was an art teacher from 1949-1988 in Moon Area School District. Mr. Miller served in the Navy during World War II following his graduation from Millersburg High School in 1942. After his discharge from military service in 1945, he entered the University of Indiana where he received his B.S. Degree in Art Education in 1948. He attended graduate school at Penn State University and received a Master's Degree in Education. His work has appeared on notepaper, letterheads, church bulletins, posters and various areas. He designed the emblem formerly used by the Moon Township Police Dept. for Crime Resistance Committee. Mr. Miller's favorite field was watercolor painting and he studied under Frank Webb of the American Watercolor Society, a noted watercolorist of Pittsburgh. Mr. Miller exhibited his work at the Three Rivers Art Festival, Pittsburgh, PA, exhibited at Ligonier and Greater Pittsburgh Airport. He was a charter member and President of West Hills Art League and Robin Hill Associates, Past President of Lutheran Brotherhood Chapter 8825 and AARP Chapter 3451. Mr. Miller was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Coraopolis since 1949 where he served as a member and Past President of Church Council. He was also a member of West Hills Art League, Moon Area Senior Citizens Association, PASR (PA School of Retirees), Past President of Moon Education Retirees (MERA) Association, AARP Chapter 3451, and Lutheran Brotherhood #8825 Chapters. McLAUGHLIN DAVID R. Age 81, of Washington, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2015, after a courageous battle with Mesothelioma. He was born on April 25, 1933, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Nelson and Cecelia (Schultes) McLaughlin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he completed Aviation Structural Mechanic School specializing in Aircraft Construction. Dave was a proud retired Steamfitter of UA Local 449. He enjoyed life to its fullest, riding motorcycles, flying planes (recently donating his plane to Wings of Hope), skiing, scuba diving, sky diving, and many other outdoor activities that presented him a challenge. He was also passionate about traveling with his wife, Carole. Together they traveled the world often visiting adventurous and exotic places. Dave had more friends than a man could ask for and belonged to several clubs, including the Pittsburgh Ski Club, Four Winds BMW Riders, Miata Club and many others. He embodied that Pittsburgh quality of being warm and friendly to all. He had a twinkle in his eye and great stories to tell. More than anything, he was an honorable man who loved "his girls". Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Carole (Wolfe) McLaughlin; a daughter, Patty (Bill) Gunzburg; a stepdaughter, Lisa (Andrew) Prichard; a brother, Jim (Ona) McLaughlin; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Bob McLaughlin and Father Nelson "Jack" McLaughlin. SMITH MARY ELLEN Age 77, formerly of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away on March 17, 2015. She was born to the late Eugene and Carolyn Overmier on May 18, 1937, in Ridgway, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Warren Smith. Mary Ellen is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth Kenny of Monument, Colorado, and Jennifer Page of Grants Pass, Oregon; her seven grandchildren; and her brother, Robert Overmier of Roswell, New Mexico. Mary Ellen spent her childhood in Emporium, Pennsylvania. She was a 1955 graduate of Cameron County High School and went on to the University of Pittsburgh where she received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. While there she was chosen as the first recipient of the Marion Baumann Award. The awardee was selected from women students in the physical therapy program on the basis of character, scholarship, and service to the University. She was also the recipient of the National Foundation Scholarship. Mary Ellen was a member of Chi Omega and graduated from the D.T. Watson school of Physical Therapy in 1959. She spent her career working as a physical therapist specializing in home care. She obtained her Master's Degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1985. Mary Ellen was an active member of the Pennsylvania Physical Therapy Association and received their Annual Achievement Award for her professionalism and her outstanding contributions to physical therapy and to the community. When Mary Ellen received this award she was dually employed as a teaching assistant in the physical therapy program at the University of Pittsburgh and by South Hills Health System in home care. She was also a student in graduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh. Mary Ellen was active in her church, as well as numerous service organizations. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Parents without Partners, Rainbow Girls, and Eastern Star. She enjoyed music throughout her life. She was a pianist and sang in various church choirs. She was a dedicated member of Beulah Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, PA and later in her life at Hope Presbyterian Church in Rogue River, Oregon. CROMER RAYMOND W. Age 92, of Mt. Lebanon, on Friday, March 6, 2015, went home to be with the Lord Jesus, and to rejoin his wife of over 55 years, the late Marybelle (Kenny) Cromer; devoted father of Raymond, Jr. (Katherine) of Waxhaw, NC, Anne (John) of Montgomery Village, MD, Mark of Mt. Lebanon, Mary (Treve) of San Jose, CA, David (Cheryl) of Mt. Prospect, IL, and Nanette (Jim) of Ingomar, PA; brother-in-law of Eileen Cromer; also survived by 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Cromer was born on February 15, 1923, of immigrant parents from Alsace, France, Eugene and Anna Cromer. He graduated from Carrick High School, and entered the University of Pittsburgh where he earned a BA in 1944, LLB in 1949, M. Litt in 1949 and a JD in 1949. Mr.Cromer was appointed to Officer Candidate School and went on active duty in World War II as a US Army infantryman in March of 1944. In April of 1945, he and three comrades were captured by Nazi SS Troops near the village of Schmidtstadt, Germany. In a masterful and persuasive communication exercise which would portend his highly successful law career, Mr. Cromer talked the German commander into releasing him and his fellow prisoners after only 36 hours in captivity. After returning home from the war he worked his way through Pitt Law School and married the former Marybelle Kenny from West Bend, Wisconsin. Mr. Cromer enjoyed a fulfilling and distinguished 56 year law career, which included admission to both the Pennsylvania and United States Supreme Court. His heart for his fellow man, especially those less fortunate than he, lead to his providing abundant legal and litigation services to many clients who were not in the position to secure a high level of representation. He was honored by the Allegheny County Bar Association for 50 years in the practice of law and continued working until the age of 85. During his life, he and Marybelle enjoyed extensive domestic and international travel including many visits to France and their homes in Grand Case, St. Martin and Jupiter, FL. His primary passions in life were God, family and country, as well as Pitt Panther and Pittsburgh Steeler football and photography. Family plans no viewing.
