ENGEL DOROTHY A. (MATARAZZO) On Wednesday, March 18, 2015, age 85, of Monroeville, surrounded by her loving family. She was a retired teller with over 34 years service at the PNC Bank, Miracle Mile, Monroeville. A daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Botti) Matarazzo; beloved wife of 43 years of Walter “Buck” Engel; sister of the late Barbara (Jim) DiNapoli, Carmine (surviving wife, Lois) Matarazzo, Josephine (Albert) Botti and Anthony (Terry) Matarazzo; sister-in-law of Emily (Paul) Jadgmann; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy loved to dance and people were so important to her, and she will fondly be remembered as a loving wife, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her. BRAUGHLER Rev. Dr. JOHN T. Age 93, on Friday, February 13, 2015, of Friendship Village, formerly of Mt. Lebanon. Loving husband of the late Dorothy J. Braughler; beloved father of Mark (Elisabeth), Damon (Deborah) Braughler and Rebecca (the late Ron) Block; proud grandfather of Jason (Jocelyn), Timothy (Brian), Amanda, Jeremy and Jesse; great-grandfather of Ariana and Colin; brother of Jane Baker and the late Louise Wise. Dr. Braughler served his country in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He graduated from Thiel College in 1947 and became an ordained Lutheran minister in 1950. He received his honorary doctorate in 1968. He faithfully served as pastor to Emanuel Lutheran Church, Etna, (1950-1954), established and served as pastor to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Monroeville (1954-1965.) He also served as pastor to First Lutheran Church of Pittsburgh, Grant Street, (1966-1989.) From 1989-1996, he served numerous churches as interim pastor. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. in First Lutheran Church, 615 Grant Street, Pittsburgh, PA. Arrangements by JOHN F. HOWELLS JOHN ROBERT “J. ROBERT” In his 97th year of life, of Stuart, Florida, passed away on February 25, 2015, at Treasure Coast Hospice. Born on August 23, 1918, in Swissvale, PA, Bob had been a 20-year resident of Murrysville, PA and after retiring from PPG Industries, Pittsburgh, PA, he moved to Stuart in 1982. Bob graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, class of '41. He then worked at the Mesta Machine Co. Arsenal under the World War II Labor Board. Later, he was transferred to the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, who manufactured Prisms for Artillery and Aircraft use, as well as Optical Glass used by the personnel in the Army and Navy. His tenure at the glass company lasted for 37 years, retiring as Assistant Treasurer and Officer of the Company. Bob served as President of the Western PA Credit Association, President Elect of the National Credit Assoc., and as President, a three-year term of the Credit Research Foundation. He was an active participant in the American Management Assoc. and the X 12 committee of the US Commerce Dept. which developed Standards for the transmission of financial data. In retirement, he was a member of SCORE Treasure Coast Chapter (sponsored by the Small Business Administration) and served as Chairman for eight years. He was elected an Elder in the Appletree Manor United Presbyterian Church, Ford City, PA in 1952 and later served as a ruling Elder in the Newlonsburg, PA Presbyterian Church. He also served on the original building fund committee. Of all of Bob's achievements, the one he cherished the most was the love of his life, Kathryn, whom he met in the 9th grade, and together they celebrated 72 wonderful years of marriage until she passed away in 2012. Bob is survived by his two sons, John, Jr. of Chapel Hill, NC and Roger of Stuart, FL; his three grandsons, Darrin, Bradley and John Robert III; as well as three great-grandsons, Mason, Aiden, and Daxson; and four great- granddaughters, Tory, Jillian, Maren, and Kaia. SONTUM DWIGHT LEE Of Mt. Lebanon, age 76, on Monday, March 16, 2015. He was born November 29, 1938, in Tarentum, the son of the late Dwight Otto and Bernice Estelle (Sarver) Sontum. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Steel) Sontum; children, Elizabeth Ann Peters, Suzanne Summers, and David Lee Sontum; grandsons, Mitchell, Wesley, and Colin Peters and Philip and Matthew Summers; and his brother, Lynn Otto Sontum. Mr. Sontum was a graduate of Tarentum High School and the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie-Mellon University). He was a registered professional engineer and spent his career in the field of industrial Instrumentation and control systems design. A resident of Mt. Lebanon, his avocations included photography and music. He was a member of the Tarentum VFD Drum Corps, the New Kensington FD Band, the Kiltie Band and pipe band, the Pittsburgh Rockets Drum Corps, the Westmoreland Esquires Drum Corps, the MacDonald Pipe Band, the Community Band South, The Allegheny Brass Band, the Edgewood Symphony, and the North Suburban Symphonic Band. BACH TERRANCE LEO Age 76, of Chester, VA, formerly of Duquesne, PA, has entered into his eternal home on March 13, 2015. He fought a valiant fight with lung cancer and then finally succumbed to brain cancer. Terry graduated from Duquesne High in 1956 where he was an active member of the swim team and was the President of the choir. He was affectionately called the "Gordon MacRae" of Duquesne High School. After graduation, he entered the Navy and became an Avionics Technician flying the North Atlantic Patrol in a P-2 Aircraft for several years. He was honorably discharged in 1962. He worked in the Pittsburgh area until he opened his own company in Amelia, VA, Wear Plates & Parts, Inc. It was his crowning achievement before he retired in 2000. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Lee of 54 years; three children, John Bach and wife, Diane, of Palm Coast, FL, Kenneth Bach and wife, Madonna, of New Providence, PA, and Pamela Anderson and husband, Brian, of Frederick, MD; grandchildren, Kevin Anderson, Jessica Anderson, Joshua Bach, and Aimee Triplett; and one great-grandson, Gavin Triplett.
