NEFF JOHN R. Age 81, of West Chester, PA, passed away on April 1, 2017. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Henry R. Neff and Lylie (Hamner) Neff. John was graduated from McKeesport High School and served in the U. S. Air Force from January 1955 - December 1958. He owned Neff Construction Company and Neff Lawn Service. John was a larger-than-life character who brought laughter and insight to those who knew him. He touched the lives of many people in his family, and through his military service, his career selling valves, his volunteer work with the Boy Scouts and his involvement with the people in his local community through his businesses: aerial photography, lawn service, and construction. John is survived by his son, Mark Neff and daughter-in-law, Jacalyn Ackerman; his grandsons, Reece Neff and Calvin Ackerman; and his sister, Emily Suzie Neff Zinsner and her husband, Dan Zinsner and their children, Richard Zinsner, Janice Inman and Karen Zinsner. John was predeceased by his wife, Monika (nee Niemz) Neff and his son, Robert James Neff. He was a US Army veteran; was president of Shiring Associates Insurance Agency; and was inducted into the PA Sports Hall of Fame East Boros Chapter. She was formerly married to the late Richard Hagy of Pittsburgh. Over the years, Tish combined her talent as a visual artist with volunteer work at many Pittsburgh hospitals. She was a patron of several artistic institutions in Pittsburgh, particularly the Pittsburgh Public Theater. She also contributed to the National Red Cross, the local food bank, Pittsburgh museums, and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, and while she had no children of her own, she was a generous supporter of the Children's Hospital Free Care Fund. Her lifelong passion was art, and she won many awards for her pastel portraits while living in Florida. She was an avid bridge player before macular degeneration took its toll. COLLINS SISTER PATRICIA, SC Formerly Sister Marie Alicia, age 85, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on April 6, 2017. Born in East Pittsburgh, Sister Patricia entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1950, from St. Mary Magdalene Parish, Homestead. Preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice (Brown) Collins; and a brother, George; she is survived by two brothers, Donald and James Collins; nieces and nephews. Sister Patricia earned a bachelor's degree in education from Seton Hill University and a master's degree in history from Duquesne University. She taught students in junior and senior high school levels in schools of the Altoona, Greensburg and Pittsburgh dioceses. From 1982 through 1990, she was a co-manager of Saint Therese Plaza, Munhall and from 1990-1991, she served in pastoral care ministry at Allegheny General Hospital. From 1991 until 2007, Sister Patricia was a member of the staff at Ursuline Services, Inc., in Pittsburgh, offering guardianship care for the financial and personal needs of the incapacitated elderly in Allegheny County. In 2007, she began ministry at the Little Sisters of the Poor as assistant director for development, a position she held until 2010. An astute historian and uncomplicated personality, Sister Patricia once stated, "Through the experiences of good days and bad days, my faith has deepened and strengthened. Each sister has been God's instrument to help with that growth." NICKOLAS CRISPIN GEORGE Age 88, of Vacaville, CA (formerly of Pittsburgh), passed away on March 10, 2017, as a result of brain trauma from a stroke in Oct. 2008 and a fall in 2012. Cris was born and educated in Pittsburgh, PA, graduating from South Hills H.S. then Duquesne University in 1951. He enlisted in the Marine Corps after high school, and was later called out of college to serve another term during the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He had a successful career as a pharmaceutical representative / district manager with McNeil Labs, ultimately being transferred to California in the late 70's. He made his home in Dixon, CA where he carried out his responsibilities as a legislative advocate in matters of health care to 14 western states. Survived by son, Eric (Brenda) of Pataskala, OH; daughter, Karen (Tom Dee) of Milan, IN; and four grandchildren, Darcie, Notarile (Andrew), Seth (Allie) and Kevin (Kelsie) Nickolas; two of his four siblings survive, Lucille Adams and Mary Lou Heigle of Pittsburgh, PA; as well as 16 nieces and nephews. His first wife of 36 years, Audrey Karl Nickolas, preceded him in death in 1986, and his brother, Edward Nickolas and Rose Conboy. After his retirement in 1987, he found great pleasure in restoring and driving Model A Fords, playing poker and bridge, serving as a cruise ship host, and helping his neighbors. He married again in 2000 and moved to Vacaville, and used his "Mr. Fix-it" talents to help Faith in Action and Habitat for Humanity. The stroke in October, 2008 curtailed most of his volunteer activities after that time, though he was able to visit hospital patients briefly as part of NorthBay Hospital Guild. A celebration of his life by friends and family will occur on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Rd., Pgh. 15236.
