NEFF JOHN R. Age 81, of West Chester, PA, passed away on April 1, 2017. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Henry R. Neff and Lylie (Hamner) Neff. John was graduated from McKeesport High School and served in the U. S. Air Force from January 1955 - December 1958. He owned Neff Construction Company and Neff Lawn Service. John was a larger-than-life character who brought laughter and insight to those who knew him. He touched the lives of many people in his family, and through his military service, his career selling valves, his volunteer work with the Boy Scouts and his involvement with the people in his local community through his businesses: aerial photography, lawn service, and construction. John is survived by his son, Mark Neff and daughter-in-law, Jacalyn Ackerman; his grandsons, Reece Neff and Calvin Ackerman; and his sister, Emily “Suzie” Neff Zinsner and her husband, Dan Zinsner and their children, Richard Zinsner, Janice Inman and Karen Zinsner. John was predeceased by his wife, Monika (nee Niemz) Neff and his son, Robert James Neff. FICERY KENNETH M. “KEN” On Tuesday, April 4, 2017, age 80 of Monroeville. Ken was a 1954 graduate of Westinghouse Memorial H.S., in Wilmerding, where he was active in sports; including being all Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) in football and basketball. He was a 1958 graduate of the Carnegie Institute of Technology, where he lettered four years in football (he was a two way player, playing both offense and defense). He also played basketball and was a recipient of the Curbstone Coaches Award in 1956. He was a US Army veteran; was president of Shiring Associates Insurance Agency; and was inducted into the PA Sports Hall of Fame East Boros Chapter. A son of the late Francis “Frank” and Mary (Plecenik) Ficery; beloved father of Gregg K. (Kristin) Ficery; dear grandfather of Meredith and Charlotte Ficery; brother of Andrea (James) Parello; and the late Sister Corinne Ficery, O.S.F. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Devoted wife of the late William Isherwood; cherished aunt of Kristin Rieck, Karin Rieck, the late Tom Rieck (survived by Debbie), Kim (Brad) Fisher, Kelley Kulikowski, Eddie Rieck, John Rieck, and Gus Rieck; loving great-aunt of Tom Rieck, Katie Rieck, Reid Fisher, Caroline Fisher, Meggie Fisher, Michael Kulikowski, Lexi Rieck, and Edward Rieck; beloved sister of John Rieck of New York, NY, and the late Albert (Bette) Rieck and the late Edward (Margaret) Rieck; dear friend of Bob Young, her caregiver for 21 years. Tish was a graduate of The Ellis School in Pittsburgh (where she was president of her class of '43), Bradford Junior College, and Rhode Island School of Design. She was the granddaughter of Pittsburgh's Edward E. Rieck, who was chairman of National Dairy Products Corporation and founder of Rieck Dairy, a precursor of Sealtest and Kraft, Inc. She was formerly married to the late Richard Hagy of Pittsburgh. Over the years, Tish combined her talent as a visual artist with volunteer work at many Pittsburgh hospitals. She was a patron of several artistic institutions in Pittsburgh, particularly the Pittsburgh Public Theater. She also contributed to the National Red Cross, the local food bank, Pittsburgh museums, and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, and while she had no children of her own, she was a generous supporter of the Children's Hospital Free Care Fund. Her lifelong passion was art, and she won many awards for her pastel portraits while living in Florida. She was an avid bridge player before macular degeneration took its toll. COLLINS SISTER PATRICIA, SC Formerly Sister Marie Alicia, age 85, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on April 6, 2017. Born in East Pittsburgh, Sister Patricia entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1950, from St. Mary Magdalene Parish, Homestead. Preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice (Brown) Collins; and a brother, George; she is survived by two brothers, Donald and James Collins; nieces and nephews. Sister Patricia earned a bachelor's degree in education from Seton Hill University and a master's degree in history from Duquesne University. She taught students in junior and senior high school levels in schools of the Altoona, Greensburg and Pittsburgh dioceses. From 1982 through 1990, she was a co-manager of Saint Therese Plaza, Munhall and from 1990-1991, she served in pastoral care ministry at Allegheny General Hospital. From 1991 until 2007, Sister Patricia was a member of the staff at Ursuline Services, Inc., in Pittsburgh, offering guardianship care for the financial and personal needs of the incapacitated elderly in Allegheny County. In 2007, she began ministry at the Little Sisters of the Poor as assistant director for development, a position she held until 2010. An astute historian and uncomplicated personality, Sister Patricia once stated, "Through the experiences of good days and bad days, my faith has deepened and strengthened. Each sister has been God's instrument to help with that growth." O'NEIL LAWRENCE CHARLES “LARRY” Of Greenfield, age 56, died suddenly on April 4, 2017. Larry was the son of Bill and Eileen Mc Shea O'Neil; loving brother of Christine (Hossein) Dashti, Mary Beth Doyle, Caroline (Jim) Deasy; and nephew to his loving Aunt and Godmother, Jean Mc Shea. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Film Studies, Larry was also a skilled cabinetmaker, woodworker and boilermaker. Larry was a lover of music and had a vast knowledge of trivial information. He is survived by six nieces and nephews, Cameron and Armon Dashti, Katie Doyle, Colleen Hanley, Meghan Saltzman, Bridget Deasy; great-nephew, Christian Saltzman; and great- niece, Amelia Saltzman; and many cousins in Pittsburgh, Michigan and Illinois. Beloved son of the late Lucille and Bert Einloth, Jr., Bert is survived by his wife, Lynne; daughter, Laurel (Mario) Brescia; sister, Mary Lou; stepdaughter, Katherine (Tim) White; and grandchildren, Sam, Madeline and Cecelia. He received his formal education at Duquesne University and The Wharton School of Business. Bert worked as a marketing executive with General Foods, General Cinema and Citibank in the New York area before retiring to Bluffton, SC in 2003. A generous and loyal friend, love of family and country were important principles; he was an avid reader and bridge player having achieved the status of Silver Life Master in 2016. In recent years, Bert and his family were ever grateful to an altruistic kidney donor and the outstanding care at Johns Hopkins Hospital. NICKOLAS CRISPIN GEORGE Age 88, of Vacaville, CA (formerly of Pittsburgh), passed away on March 10, 2017, as a result of brain trauma from a stroke in Oct. 2008 and a fall in 2012. Cris was born and educated in Pittsburgh, PA, graduating from South Hills H.S. then Duquesne University in 1951. He enlisted in the Marine Corps after high school, and was later called out of college to serve another term during the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He had a successful career as a pharmaceutical representative / district manager with McNeil Labs, ultimately being transferred to California in the late 70's. He made his home in Dixon, CA where he carried out his responsibilities as a legislative advocate in matters of health care to 14 western states. Survived by son, Eric (Brenda) of Pataskala, OH; daughter, Karen (Tom Dee) of Milan, IN; and four grandchildren, Darcie, Notarile (Andrew), Seth (Allie) and Kevin (Kelsie) Nickolas; two of his four siblings survive, Lucille Adams and Mary Lou Heigle of Pittsburgh, PA; as well as 16 nieces and nephews. His first wife of 36 years, Audrey Karl Nickolas, preceded him in death in 1986, and his brother, Edward Nickolas and Rose Conboy. After his retirement in 1987, he found great pleasure in restoring and driving Model A Fords, playing poker and bridge, serving as a cruise ship host, and helping his neighbors. He married again in 2000 and moved to Vacaville, and used his "Mr. Fix-it" talents to help Faith in Action and Habitat for Humanity. The stroke in October, 2008 curtailed most of his volunteer activities after that time, though he was able to visit hospital patients briefly as part of NorthBay Hospital Guild. A celebration of his life by friends and family will occur on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Rd., Pgh. 15236. TRAKOFLER KATHLEEN M., Ph.D. Age 73, of Bethel Park, PA, passed away March 23, 2017. Born January 26, 1944, she was the loving wife of Carl J. Trakofler; adored mother of Nicholas Kowalski and Matthew Kowalski; beloved sister of Tom Madland (Barbara) of San Francisco, CA; a valued friend to many and a mentor for young professional women. Kathleen was a respected educator at all levels: elementary through college, included a professorship at CCAC. She was also a revered researcher for NIOSH and the CDC, pioneering safety training and advocating mental health awareness. Kathleen celebrated life with a caring heart, allowing her to connect with all kinds of people in meaningful and personal ways. She was an accomplished world-traveler, who transcended cultural barriers with an uncommon ability to relate to a wide variety of people. In retirement, Kathleen enjoyed kayaking and nature at Treasure Lake. WIAN RICHARD “DICK” GEORGE Age 64, originally of East End Pittsburgh, PA, passed away as he lived, surrounded by his loving family on March 30, 2017 in Charlotte, NC. Dick gave and received love easily; he was truly a beautiful man, inside and out. Outside of his adored family, Dick was passionate about his beloved Steelers. He is survived by his wife of 43 years and high school sweetheart, Francine “Gold” Wian; his proudest achievements, his sons, Jonathan (Ronda) and Elliott (Elizabeth); as well as his grandchildren, Jackson, Ella, and Eleanor, who astonished him with their unconditional love. HAMM BETTY JEAN Age 92, formerly of Martins Ferry, OH, died Wednesday, April 5, 2017. She was born in Martins Ferry on September 9, 1924, the daughter of the late Michael W. and Anna Augusta (Hicks) Letzelter. She was a retired Human Resource Manager at Swisher International of Wheeling, WV. She was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Martins Ferry, former member of the Personnel Club of the Upper Ohio Valley, a member of the Swisher International Quarter Century Club and a former member of the Ivy Twig of EORH. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Hamm, Sr.; three brothers, Col. Cyril J., Michael B. and Richard T. Letzelter. She is survived by one son, Rev. Thomas F. Hamm, Jr., Gallipolis, OH; nephew, Cyril J. Letzelter, Fort Collins, CO; four nieces, Mary E. Grady, Mattoon, IL, Lucille A. Smith, Glover, VT; Gretchen Corban and Laura Lee Letzelter, both of Reynoldsburg, OH; cousin, Barbara A. Kulpa, Wheeling, WV. Arrangements have been entrusted to KELLER FUNERAL HOME, 615 Hanover Street, Martins Ferry, where friends will be received Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with Vigil Services at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Liturgy with Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017, with Rev. Tom Hamm and Rev. Tom Marut, concelebrating. Mausoleum Entombment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, WV.
