DEVINE RICHARD DICK WILLIAM Age 85, a lifelong resident of Sewickley, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at West Penn Hospice. Born in Sewickley on July 20, 1931, to the late William T. and Grace A. (Schaming) Devine; he was the beloved husband for 62 years to Dorothy (Gurgovits) Devine; loving father of Deborah Lynn (Michael) Ference, Susan (Edward) Devine Halo, Barbara Ann Devine, Diane Carol (Gregory) Ray; proud grandfather of Christopher and Lindsay Ference, T.J., Kristen, and Marisa Ray; stepgrandfather of Olivia Halo and Dr. Julia (Hans) Halo Wildschutte; brother of Carol Ann Sery. Dick graduated from St. Veronica High School in Ambridge and attended Carnegie Tech (Carnegie-Mellon University). He was retired from Koppers/Kaiser Companies where he worked as a professional engineer for over forty years. Dick was a talented photographer who won several 1st place prizes in the former Pittsburgh Press photography contests. He also enjoyed golfing, hunting, and trapshooting, and was the 2000 PA State Shoot Handicap Resident Veteran Champion. He was a life member of the NRA and Ambridge Sportsman's Club. Dick enjoyed classical music and was President of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Parents Association and was on the Board of Directors of the Sewickley Civic Symphony for several years. He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard and a lifelong member and usher at St. James Church. To the delight of his family and friends, he was an ethusiastic chef and was famous for his delicious bread and savory soups. ROONEY DANIEL MILTON "DAN" A former U.S. Ambassador to Ireland, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Chairman of the Pittsburgh Steelers, passed away surrounded by members of his loving family on April 13, 2017. Mr. Rooney, born on Pittsburgh's North Side on July 20, 1932, a member of Saint Peter's Church, graduated from North Catholic High School in 1950, where he quarterbacked the varsity football team. He went on to graduate from Duquesne University in 1955 with a Bachelor's Degree in accounting. For nearly seven decades, Mr. Rooney has held numerous positions within the Steelers organization, having worked in every area of the franchise. He was named president of the Steelers in 1975. As his father before him (Arthur Joseph Rooney, Sr.), he assumed the title of Chairman in May 2003. Mr. Rooney joined his father in August 2000, as only the second father-son tandem to be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 2002, Mr. Rooney was named chairman of the NFL Diversity Committee, which implemented what became known as the Rooney Rule. The Rooney Rule has drawn praise from both inside and outside the NFL for its impact in providing greater opportunities in coaching and NFL front office positions for minorities. Mr. Rooney was widely recognized as one of the National Football League's most influential executives and a peacemaker. Along with his love and dedication to the Steelers and the NFL, Mr. Rooney also dedicated himself to the community. Among the charitable organizations he served were The United Way of America, The Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation, Duquesne University, the Extra Mile Foundation, and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Mr. Rooney was named U.S. Ambassador to Ireland in 2009 by President Barack Obama and he held the position until his post concluded on December 14, 2012. Mr. Rooney is well-known in Ireland as one of the founders of the American Ireland Fund which are dedicated to building bridges of peace, culture, and charity in Ireland and Northern Ireland. He and his wife Patricia also funded the annual Rooney Prize for Irish Literature to highlight the work of young Irish writers. Daniel M. Rooney is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia; and seven of their nine children, Arthur II (Greta); Patricia (Robert) Gerrero; the late Kathleen (Thomas) Miller; the late Rita; Daniel, Jr. (Allison); Mary Duffy; John (Emma); James (Stephanie); and Joan (Christopher) Clancy; 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He also is survived by brothers, Arthur, Jr. (Kathleen), Timothy (June), Patrick (Sandy), and John (JoAnn); plus numerous nieces and nephews. Ada was the proud grandmother to Lynn Ann Atkinson, Jennifer Trainor, Joseph Trainor, Jr., Jeremiah Henderson (Melissa) and Jessica Trainor; as well as four great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Robert C. Trainor, Jr. of The Villages, Florida, Joseph E. Born October 27, 1934, in Brackenridge, PA, Mr. Mallonee, moved to Northern VA, after serving in the Army, and graduating from the Univ. of Pittsburgh. After 32 years of working for the government, and another 10 years, as contractor, Mr. Mallonee retired in 2001. Mr. Mallonee was a proud Army veteran, and loved his family greatly. Survivors include three sons, Quinn D. Mallonee of Vienna, VA, Brett E. Mallone of Breinigsville, PA, Todd S. Mallonee of Bridgwater, United Kingdom; two brothers, Ronal N. Mallonee of Saxonburg, PA, and Gary G. Mallonee of Natrona PA; two nieces; one nephew; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Mallonee was preceded in death, by his father, Ross A. TUCKER MARLENE A. Age 64, of Neville Island, passed on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. Born February 18, 1953, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late James Radcliffe and Sarah I. (Smith) Lagerbusch; wife of the late Ronald Tucker; companion of Bernie Mazur, Jr.; mother of April Smith, Louis, Timothy, Scott and Marlene Fitzgerald, Arthur Tucker and Angela McCarthy; 28 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister of James (Patty) Radcliffe and Bobbye (Steve) Waslosky. Marlene loved her family and touched a lot of people's lives and enjoyed sharing good stories.
