GOUZOULIS ANGELA C. On Monday, April 2, 2018, beloved wife of the late Christos E. Gouzoulis; mother of Nicholas C. Gouzoulis (Martha), Demetra Kontoulis (Takis) and Sia Karagiannis (John); sister of James Gianaris (Mary), Peter Gianaris (Dorothy), and the late George and Paul Gianaris; grandmother of Angela Tevis, Nichole Knisely, James Kampetis, Kristen Kampetis and Penny Lappas; also survived by four great- grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Greece. Originally from the beautiful village of Georgoitsi in Sparta, Greece she survived the German occupation of Greece during World War II, the Greek Civil War and subsequent famine that struck the country. Her resilience and resourcefulness brought her and her family to the United States in 1951, building a new life in Washington D.C., moving to Pittsburgh shortly after where she would spend her remaining years. She quickly assimilated to America establishing herself as a hard-working seamstress. She was as an active member of the St. Nicholas Cathedral church community for 63 years. Angela lived independently in her home until the age of 96. She spent many summers visiting her homeland, never forgetting those she left behind years ago. She was well known for her stunning garden, where she was the happiest among her vegetables and flowers. She was an avid cook and baker and distributed her baked goods by the box-full to neighbors and friends. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., 4900 Centre Avenue, at Devonshire Street, on Wednesday 2-8 p.m. with Trisagion Service at 7 p.m. Funeral Thursday, in St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 12 Noon.
