THOMPSON JOHN M., JR. On August 4 2018, at the age of 86, John M. Thompson Jr. passed away peacefully after complications from pneumonia. Known throughout Plum Borough, John had a zest for life, for fun, and for family. He was an active member of The Presbyterian Church of Plum Creek for all of his 86 years - serving on many different committees and sessions. John attended and graduated from RandolphMacon Military Academy. John served in the Army as a military police officer stationed in Killeen, Texas. After graduating from Slippery Rock State Teachers College, he started his career as an elementary school teacher for the Penn Hills school district and retired as associate teaching principal. John loved being a spectator (a rather vocal one) at all sorts of sporting events. These included professional sports, high school, college, little league, and "pick-up". John also bowled regularly at Nesbit's Lanes in Plum Borough, he golfed and was a proud member and grandson of a founding member of the Homewood Hunting camp. He was a member of Lodge #799 of the Masonic Order. John was preceded in death by his parents, John M. and Florence H. Thompson and his loving wife of fifty years, Eleanor Bills Thompson. Father of John M. (Michelle) Thompson III; grandfather of John M. "Jack" IV, Grace Ann Thompson, Brianna Burkette and Holden Burkette; brother of Margaret Ann (the late Jon) Fowler and the late George Thompson; brother-in-law of Mary Lloyd Thompson; brother-in-law of James and Patricia Stewart; also survived by many nieces and nephews. "DEE" (HORNICK) Dolores "Dee" Josephine (Hornick) Schluep, age 84, of Hampton Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh on August 27, 2018. Dee was born in Perrysville and graduated from Perry High in 1952. She was a cook all of her life and worked at places like the Wildwood Country Club, Pineview Manor Nursing Home, The Wildwood Coach and Keil's Donut Shop. She was a big fan of the Pirates, Steelers and Pens. Her favorite shows to watch were Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She liked to travel; her favorite place was to go was Las Vegas. Some of her interests were flower gardening, sewing, cooking and baking, puzzles and her fish pond. Dee cherished her family, especially her granddaughters and great grandchildren. She is survived by her three daughters, Denise Schluep, Lisa Schluep and Beth Stewart, all of Hampton Twp.; two granddaughters, Nicole (Michael "Kappy") Kaplan and Brandy Stewart, both of West Deer Twp.; greatgrandchildren, Tristian and Aurora; stepdaughter, Debbie (Tommy) Anthony, of Texas. HUMPHREYS ARTHUR JAMES Upper St. Clair, PA : Went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 27, 2018 with his family by his bedside. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Marion Stuart Humphreys; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. John L. Humphreys; and his brother, Robert N. Humphreys. He is survived by his three beloved daughters and their families, Ann (Harry) Smeltzer and son, Joe of Findlay Township, PA, Betsy (Bill) Stewart and their children, Ryan (Maureen), Erin, Bradley, and Jeff of Cary, NC, and Lynn Humphreys (Jack Broadbent) and her son, Bowman of Alameda, CA. He is also survived by his partner, Sandra Nicklas of Upper St. Clair; brother, Dr. John L. Humphreys Jr. of Atlanta, GA, and many loving nieces and nephews. Art was born on March 4, 1937 and raised in Mt. Lebanon, PA. After graduating from Mt. Lebanon High School, he attended the College of Wooster (OH) where he met his wife, Marion. Following Wooster, he earned his M.B.A. at The Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania. He made his career in accounting and finance, starting with Procter & Gamble in Quincy, MA and Cincinnati, OH, then the Tappan Company in Mansfield, OH, and finally at Mobay Corporation, which became Bayer Corporation, in Pittsburgh.  He retired in 2001, and enjoyed his membership in the Bayer 25 Year Club. Art had a life-long love of church, music, sports, and family. He served as an Elder in several congregations and most recently enjoyed singing in the choir at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Music was an important part of his life, instilled in him by his mother at an early age. This included playing piano, being a 15 year member of the Bayer choir, and attending the River City Brass concerts for the past thirty years. Art had a passion for sports. He was a member of his high school basketball team as well as his college golf team. He enjoyed playing golf his entire life.   He was a consummate Pittsburgh sports fan at all levels from the Steelers, Pirates, and Pens to Pitt/Duquesne.  Most important to him, though, were high school sports. Besides attending local area high school events, he also participated in broadcasting these games. Ultimately, family was his top priority. He enjoyed traveling coast to coast to attend his grandchildren's events and he loved family gatherings, particularly on 4th of July at the family cottage on Lake Erie at Van Buren Point, NY. As someone who had many friends, Art lived by this motto - "You'll find that the world is a small place…if you just take the time to talk with people". BOOKSER WALLACE R. A longtime Ohio resident and decorated World War II veteran, died August 30, 2018 in Cincinnati. He was 96. Mr. Bookser, who moved to Cincinnati in 2002 after living nearly 50 years in Springfield, spent more than 10 years as emcee for the Sassy Senior Show Dancers, a group of senior citizens who perform at Cincinnati-area nursing homes. A native of Pittsburgh, PA, he was inducted into the city's Soldiers & Sailors Hall of Valor in 2006 for his service as a lieutenant in World War II. He served as a C-47 pilot with the 10th Combat Cargo Squadron of the 10th Air Force in the China-Burma-India theater and was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and four Oak Leaf Clusters.  He moved to Springfield in the fall of 1954 to accept a position as vice president of the Thermometer Corp. of America. Later, he became a civilian employee at WrightPatterson Air Force Base where, in 1975, he was awarded the Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service in recognition of his distinguished performance as director of research and development contracting of the Aeronautical Systems Division. He was active in Springfield's St. Teresa Catholic Parish, where he served as a lector and Eucharistic minister. He also was involved in activities at Catholic Central High School, which his six daughters attended. In a June 2006 story in The Enquirer, his daughters spoke of Mr. Bookser's emphasis that they should be prepared for whatever life threw at them and said he told them, "You can do anything you put your mind to." They called him a perfect example of how to age gracefully and be adaptable.  He was born May 17, 1922, one of five children of Myrtle E. (Brust) and Charles Henry Bookser. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of more than 55 years, Catherine (Pfeifer); sister, Jean; brothers, Charles and William; and sister Ruby, who died in early childhood.  He is survived by his partner, Vera Poppe of Cincinnati; six daughters, Mary Bookser, S.C., Elizabeth Bookser Barkley (Tim Harmon) and Cathy BookserFeister (John Feister) of Cincinnati; Jean Brinzer (Ken) of Pittsburgh, PA, Susanne Bookser (Julia Allegrini) of Newport, KY, and Barb Fraze (Jim) of Woodbridge, VA; 12 grandchildren, Bill Brinzer (Marguerite Link) and Tom Brinzer (Becky Whalen) of Pittsburgh, Cathy Dakuginow (Steve) of Downington, PA; Katie Lavelle (Kevin) and Annie Horn (Lou) of Cincinnati, Liz Huesman (Joe) of Bethel, Jim Fraze of Columbus, Becky Shaw (Ben) and Jennifer Fraze of Woodbridge, VA, Jesse Feister (Emily) of Los Angeles, Scott Feister (Megan) of Camarillo, CA, John Feister of Chicago; and 17 greatgrandchildren.
