NESBITT GERTRUDE HELEN Age 85, of Neville Island, passed away May 10, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford. Gertrude was born in Syracuse, NY on July 29, 1928, to the late Patricia Zaronski and Walter Hill. She was a Secretary with the Kaufmann's Department Store and retired in 1998 with 35 years of service. She enjoyed reading and liked to embroider. Surviving are two sons, Ronald Nesbitt of Neville Island and Walter Nesbitt of Penn, PA; also two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Gertrude was also predeceased by an infant daughter, Patricia Nesbitt. As per her wishes, there will be no visitation, and a Memorial is planned at a later date. Beloved husband of 45 years to Lois Slocum; brother of Bob of Peoria, Illinois; father of Christy (Jim) Heflin of Dazey, North Dakota and Matt (Teresa) Slocum of Mt. Lebanon, PA; proud grandfather of Daniel, Anna, Spencer, and Bryce; son of the late Robert and Irma Slocum. James was born in Gary, Indiana, in 1942. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1960 and went on to earn a degree in mathematics from Muskingum College in 1965. He worked as a systems analyst for U.S. Steel for over 30 years. Jim enjoyed fishing, photography, vacationing, playing bridge, spending time with friends, family, and grandchildren, and helping others. Additionally, for several years, he assisted with a variety of activities at Christ United Methodist Church, including health ministries, mission trips, fish fries, and more. His sense of humor and kindness is something everyone has appreciated over the years. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Road, Bethel Park, PA 15102 on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet friends and loved ones at a luncheon in the Christian Life Center following the service. MALLISEE DOROTHY DAVIDSON Age 94, a lifelong resident of Plum Borough, died peacefully at home on May 13, 2014. She was born December 9, 1919, to the late Paul and Helen Boyd Davidson. She was a graduate of CMU and a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church of Plum Creek. Beloved mother of Virginia Mallisee and Henry (Gaye) Mallisee, all of Plum; also survived by three grandchildren, Jessica Mallisee, Jill (Jason) Pugh, and Emily Mallisee; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. KUCHINIC EDWARD J. Age 69, of Venetia, died Sunday, May 11, 2014, at his home. He was born May 11, 1945, in New Eagle, a son of the late Louis and Anna Petros Kuchinic. Mr. Kuchinic retired as a foreman at the former Consol Coal Company's Mathies Mine in Eighty-Four. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Finleyville, American Legion Post 613 in Finleyville, and V.F.W. Post 764 in McMurray. Mr. Kuchinic enjoyed hunting, cooking, traveling, Doo Wop music, and was a Corvette enthusiast and owner his adult life. Surviving are his wife, Cathy Mirt Kuchinic; two sons, Colin Kuchinic of Bartlesville, OK and Edward Jay Kuchinic of Venetia; a brother, Thomas Kuchinic of Upper St. Clair; mother-in-law, Patricia Mirt of Bethel Park; four brothers-in-law, Raymond (Kathy), Joe (Debra), Chuck (Lynda), and Jim (Bobbie) Mirt; a sister-in law, Rosemary Kuchinic; two special lifelong friends, Harry Barnes and Norman Kenny; many nieces and nephews; and his two dogs, Sassy and Chase. DELANO JUNE S. Age 89, passed away at home in Mt. Lebanon on May 12, 2014, after a lengthy struggle that weakened her body but never her mind. A pioneer in early childhood education, Dr. Delano earned her Ph.D. after raising five children and mentored graduate students until her 85th birthday. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, on June 8, 1924, she was a public school teacher until marrying Hubert W. Delano, a steel executive, and starting her own family. After resuming her career, Dr. Delano worked for the Pittsburgh Public Schools as an administrator of early childhood programs. When she retired from the school system, she became Carlow University's director of graduate education programs and later guided Ph.D. students for Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale. A longtime member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), Dr. Delano was often part of accreditation teams that certified childcare centers in Pennsylvania. Besides her passion for children, Dr. Delano was a strong advocate for civil rights and the environment. She was a co-founder of the Mt. Lebanon League of Women Voters and co-founded Citizens for Community Relations to end housing discrimination in Mt. Lebanon. Her desire to preserve green spaces in the community led her to run for public office, becoming the first Democratic woman to win election to the Mt. Lebanon Commission in 1985. A co-founder of the Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy, she won state recognition for creating "School in the Park," a program whereby every third grader in Mt. Lebanon spends a day studying the environment in a local park. A warm smile for all and a passion for making life better for others, Dr. Delano will be missed by countless friends and family. Predeceased by her husband; and son, Stephen; she is survived by four children; three daughters-in-law; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; children, Jon and Jane Delano of Mt. Lebanon, Diane Delano of Mt. Lebanon, Chris and Cindy Delano of Nantucket, Michael Delano of Mt. Lebanon, Sarah Delano and Michael Marks of Greenfield; grandchildren, Lindsay Monikowski (Sean) of Cranberry, Aaron Delano of Mt. Lebanon, Rachel Delano of Philadelphia, Katie and Benjamin Delano of Mt. Lebanon, Adam and Anna Marks of Greenfield; great- grandchildren, June and Eve Monikowski of Cranberry. McCHESNEY WILLIAM J. Age 72, of Bethel Park, beloved husband of Joyce Metzler McChesney, passed on April 26, 2014. Born on April 7, 1942, in Coraopolis, PA, he was the son of the late Mary Agnes King McChesney and George Hamilton McChesney, and brother of the late Martha McCarren. Bill was the loving and involved father of Meghan McChesney Gilroy and Kevin Crawford McChesney. He is survived by two grandchildren, Bodhi and Téa Gilroy. Bill was a graduate of St. Mary of the Mount High School and Duquesne University, and maintained a close circle of friends from Mt. Washington throughout his adult life. He was a successful accountant for almost 50 years. He ran his practice, W. J. McChesney, CPA, in Penn Hills for over 32 years, then recently partnered with William Stunkel, CPA, to become a division of Stunkel Tax & Accounting, PC. For many years, Bill was both an avid golfer at St. Clair Country Club and bowler at Sports Haven Bowling Alley. He studied T'ai Chi with David Clippinger of Still Mountain T'ai Chi and Chi Kung. He enjoyed cooking for friends and family as a certified Chinese Chef taught by Anna Kao. Bill, who received an LVAD (artificial heart) in 2011, was grateful for the expertise and care by Dr. Robert Kormos and the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute doctors and nurses. He and Joyce were preparing to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary in May. Friends are welcome for a celebration of his life on May 31 from 1-4 p.m. at Bower Hill III Apartments in Mt. Carol Ann retired from US Airways as a reservationist. She was currently a councilwoman in Carnegie and very active in politics.
