RUGGIERO VANDA Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother on May 6, 2014. Born in Bione, Italy, on October 3, 1927, at age 4 she immigrated with her parents to Pittsburgh, PA where she met and married her favorite dance partner, John Ruggiero, in 1948. In 1999, they relocated to Mesa, AZ to be near family and enjoy the weather. She will be remembered for her beautiful hair and very blue eyes, baking the best cookies and pies, and dancing to her favorite songs with her great-grandchildren. Mema will be deeply missed and forever loved. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; cherished son, Roger; and loving parents, Joseph and Margherita Gafforini. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Candida and John McGibbney; grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer) McGibbney and Michelle (Gregory) Vlahoulis; and great- grandchildren, Madeleine, Matthew, Morgan, and Macie McGibbney, and Braden and Kiley Vlahoulis. She is also survived by all her siblings, Norma Pfeiffer, Joy and Roger Gafforini; and loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. MacCONNELL JOCELYN Age 88, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013. Jocelyn grew up in Ben Avon, graduated from Colby College, married Richard Jennings MacConnell, and ventured on to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she spent the next 23 years raising her children. She then got a master's degree at Johns Hopkins University and started tutoring learning-disabled individuals, first in San Juan, then in Fairfax, VA. She was a strong proponent of education and a believer in the arts, an avid reader, a hound on the tennis court and the golf course, and an accomplished pianist. She also loved gardening, and readers of this notice are encouraged to slow down and smell a gardenia. In 2002, Jocelyn was predeceased by her husband, Richard “Dick” Jennings MacConnell. She is survived by her children, Jocelyn (Dave) Durrance, Jennings (Suzanne) MacConnell, Jen Dismukes, and Michael (Susan) MacConnell; her sisters, Natalie Hulme Curry, Holiday Hulme Shoup and Aura Raspaldo Hulme; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her longtime and devoted caregiver, Elizabeth Argueta. BROZ CESIRA “IDA” (DelFABRO) Age 97, of Pittsburgh's North Side, died peacefully at home on May 15, 2014. Ida was born in Forni Avoltri, Italy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, and her brothers, Gino and Joe. Survived by her sons, John (Joan) and James (Carol); her granddaughters, Julie (Nick) and Jena; her great-granddaughter, Kendall; two step-grandchildren, Mack (Susan) and Joy (Earl), and seven step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her best friend, Jack. Ida came to the United States in 1937 and worked as a seamstress. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. In particular she loved her peach trees! She also volunteered at the local food banks. A special thank you to everyone at Forbes Hospice along with her caregivers, Jeannie, Kim and Leslie for their wonderful care, love and support. SUCCOP RUTH Age 94, died peacefully at home after a long and productive life. Predeceased by her parents, F. Harry and Bertha Succop, Ruth leaves beloved Pittsburgh cousins, Paul L. (Dorothy) Reiber, Tom (Kaye) Reiber and Paul (Cynthia) Liefeld, amongst other cherished cousins across the country. Ruth was godmother to Allison Liefeld (Jeff) Fillar, which contributed to a lifelong profound respect across generations. Miss Succop graduated from the Pennsylvania College for Women (now Chatham University) in 1941 and earned her MSW from Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University). After a brief career in New York City as a social worker, Ruth was recruited back to Pittsburgh to establish the Department of Clinical Social Work at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. After a 32-year career at Children's, Ruth created a charitable trust to provide the staff with continuing education and training. The trust continues indefinitely with the Children's Department of Clinical Social Work celebrating its 20th annual seminar in 2014, which remains open to its staff and the tri-state's social service community. Janet Fogle, current supervisor of Children's Department of Clinical Social Work, stated that Ruth recently recounted that she had made two wonderful choices in her life that contributed to her happiness. The first was returning to Pittsburgh and starting the social work department and the second was moving to Longwood at Oakmont. Both she and her extended family are extremely grateful for the friendships she treasured and the care she received. A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, at the Chapel at Longwood, Verona, PA. ZAMBA ANDREW BERNARD Age 90, of Paramount Senior Care, formerly of Levittown and Freeland, PA. The son of the late Andrew and Mary Zamba of Freeland, PA. Andy served as a US Army Staff Sergeant in WWII as a part of the 702nd Tank Battalion. He earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his brave and noble service. After the war, Andy went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Penn State University in Engineering and retired from Roebling Sons Co. and later Cabot Medical Corporation. He was the beloved husband to the late Edna Zamba (Smith) for over 70 years; loving father of John E. Zamba (Sandy), Marilyn A. Richards (Robert); and was also preceded in death by his young son, Andrew Zamba; and great-granddaughter, Camryn Surman; proud grandfather of Michael C. White (Jeanette), Matthew E. White, Andrew G.
