PATRICK CHRISTIAN SNAVELY Age 39, on Thursday, June 18, 2020, of Truckee, CA. With our deepest sorrow, we announce the sudden passing of Patrick Christian Snavely at his home in Truckee, CA, on June 18, 2020. Patrick was a central fixture in a large and loving family. He was a kind and generous person who will be forever missed by many. His strong character, independent spirit, and infectious laugh will be remembered by all who knew him. Patrick was the beloved son of Peggy and Steve Snavely; brother to Laura (Owen Vaughn), brother to Eric (Maureen Mann); adoring uncle to Scott and Cormac; and grandson of Theresa V. Snavely, her late husband Christian M. Snavely and the late Irene and Robert F. Breen. In addition to his immediate family, Patrick was a cherished friend, mentor, and confidant to his extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. Patrick's story has an impressive collection of memorable chapters. With a life that began in Pittsburgh, his journey included public service as a volunteer firefighter, graduation from Upper St. Clair High School, an undergraduate degree from Tulane University, and an MBA from Wake Forest University. Patrick spent 16 years in commercial banking, had expertise in the financial markets and was most recently a small business broker in Laguna Beach, CA. His true passion for long-haul trucking was fulfilled by crisscrossing “the lower 48” a plethora of times in his Chevy pickup truck with the windows down and tunes turned up. He had an encyclopedic knowledge and love for all music and an inexplicable interest in 80's rock star biographies. Patrick had an absolute devotion to his adorable nephews Scotty and Mac; dedicating an entire room to their comfort and joy at his Truckee home. Patrick collected many friends along the way, nurturing relationships as a top priority. As a minor Instagram celebrity, he brought his devoted “tweepies” joy and laughter with his refreshingly honest, obscure, and always hilarious content. Patrick's passing will never erase the boisterous humor, moral convictions, immense heart, and sensitive nature he bestowed on his friends and family. In the quiet moments ahead, he will be remembered for his uncanny ability to reference arcane quotes from a vast library of classic movies and The Simpsons in perfect context and timing. The funeral service will be private. On a future date, the Snavely family will host a reception for all to honor Patrick's life. In lieu of flowers, Patrick would be pleased with your support for the “Patrick C. Snavely Scholarship Fund”, Tulane University, P.O. Box 61075, New Orleans, LA 70161-9986 or the mental health organization of your choice. Arrangements by JOHN F. SLATER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Roa, Pittsburgh, PA 15227. CAROL JANET (COPE) PASTOR Carol J. Pastor, a lifelong teacher whose fondness for Disney was eclipsed only by her steadfast faith, love of family and deep affection for her friends, died on July 8, 2020, after a long battle with cancer. She was 74. Carol died peacefully in her sleep in her home of 45 years, her husband and three children at her side. Carol was a mother first and foremost and raised her three boys to be kind and courteous, respect others and remember nothing is more important than family. A teacher at St. Teresa of Avila School in Perrysville for 34 years, she taught her students the value of faith and education. If they believed in themselves, trusted in God and tried their best, she told them, they could accomplish anything. A beloved colleague and friend, Carol saw the best in everyone. She had an irrepressible optimism and self-deprecating sense of humor that drew others to her and put their needs before her own. She was a sympathetic ear, a calming touch or a shoulder to cry on. Carol loved all things Disney and worked at the Disney Store in Ross Park Mall for 14 years, developing lifelong friendships and earning a cherished Purple Pass. She visited Disney World each summer and considered it the second-happiest place on earth. The first was her home at Christmas, her family gathered around the dining room table. Twelve years after surviving cancer, she received a second cancer diagnosis. She endured surgery and chemotherapy for two years not because she needed more from life, but because she knew others needed her. Before her final appointment, she delivered cookies and protective masks made by her granddaughter, Emme, to her doctors as a way of saying goodbye and thanking them for their support. In her final days, all of that love came back to her. Despite a national pandemic that kept people apart, family, friends, neighbors, former colleagues and students visited to check on her, bring her food or supplies, and to make sure she and her family knew they were in their thoughts and prayers. Carol was born to Alfred John Cope and Pauline Isabel Colwell on Sept. 24, 1945, in Butler. She attended Butler High School and Edinboro University. She met Frank Pastor, who went to Gannon University, through mutual friends at a basketball game. They were married on June 17, 1967 and recently celebrated their 53rd anniversary. Carol was twice President of the Perry Highland Junior Women's Club, a community service organization, and a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Professional Honorary Association. She is survived by her husband, Frank; children Frank Jr. (Courtney Cairns), Shawn (Nikita Malhotra) and Brian (Joshanna Robinson); and grandchildren Ryan, Emme and Nate, who brought her more joy than even the Main Street Electrical Parade. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Alfred J. Cope. A private funeral service was held Monday at St. Teresa of Avila Church with Fr. Mike Zavage presiding. Interment followed at Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery. Memorials or donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. ANGELA "ANGIE" NESTOS AGE 83, ...

ANGELA "ANGIE" NESTOS Age 83, former Director of Nursing for all of UPMC's operating rooms; resident of Whitehall, Allegheny County, and well-known former Franklin resident, died peacefully at 8:29 AM Friday, July 10, 2020 in Cumberland Crossing Manor near Pittsburgh; following a period of declining health. She was born July 12, 1936 in Franklin, a beloved daughter of the late George and Mary Cooklis Nestos. Angie was a 1954 graduate of Franklin High School. Following high school, she attended and graduated from The Presbyterian “Presby” Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. Ms. Nestos began her career at Presby in 1957 as a newly graduated nurse in the operating room. In 1960, she was named Head Nurse of Presby's OR; in 1962, she became Nursing Supervisor of all of Presby's operating rooms; and in 1966, she was named Director of Nursing for all of Presby's operating rooms. After Presby, Montefiore, and Eye & Ear Hospitals merged, she became Director of Nursing for all of UPMC Hospital's merged operating rooms as well. Angie is remembered fondly by her colleagues for her hard work ethic, her sense of humor, and dedication to her job, but most importantly, for the expert care and well being of her patients. She would always say she never wanted to work anywhere else in nursing but in the OR. “I loved the OR as a student nurse”, she often said, adding that “the work was demanding, and exhausting, yet always very rewarding.” She was also given the duties of Nursing Director of The Gamma Knife and Urology/Cystoscopy departments for all of UPMC. Angie had said the introduction of The Gamma Knife at UPMC – the first hospital in the nation to use this device – also was one of her most memorable experiences in nursing. She travelled to Sweden for Gamma Knife training. The experiences she had were both enjoyable, as well as being professionally rewarding. Ms. Nestos also took great pride in helping to guide UPMC's operating rooms through such major changes as the beginning of UPMC's transplantation program in the early 1980's. Throughout her career, Ms. Nestos had extensively lectured, was a longtime nursing consultant, and was the author of numerous published papers printed in medical journals, as well as in contemporary nursing teaching texts on the subjects of OR Nursing, and OR Management. Her manuscripts included articles on “How to set up a medical transplantation program within the operating room.” In 1978, Angie won The Presby Hall of Fame Award for outstanding service, and in 1983, she received The Presby School of Nursing Outstanding Alumni Award. Ms. Nestos is also listed in Who's Who in the East, and in Who's Who of American Women. One of her most unusual honors though, came in the early 1990's, when the members of her staff nominated her for UPMC's Priority Management's Messiest Desk Award, which she went on to win, hands down! Angie also looked forward to her downtime as well. She loved to golf, was an avid reader, enjoyed extensively travelling around the world; as well as the time she was able to spend at her Boynton Beach, FL home. Growing up, and in later years while in Franklin, she was a faithful member of St. John Episcopal Church. The prominent leaders of UPMC were quoted at her retirement as saying: “Angie has guided and directed all of us at some time or another in each of our professional careers. She has worked with doctors, nurses, and administrators alike, to bring about many present day changes to UPMC and Presby, all for the betterment of its patient care. As a mentor, she taught us all how to manage our time and tasks more efficiently within a healthcare setting; and as a human being she showed us all how to love unconditionally, and how to truly value our patients as well as ourselves.” Angie is survived by her brother, Jerry Nestos, and his wife, Ellen, of Coral Springs, FL; as well as many extended family members and cherished friends. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public visitation. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be directed in her name to St. John Episcopal Church, 1145 Buffalo Street, Franklin, PA 16323, or to the charity of one's choice. Private burial will be in Franklin Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the TIMOTHY E. HARTLE FUNERAL HOME, 1328 Elk Street, Franklin.
