Nagel of Omaha, NE; and son, Mark E. Richard and his wife, Polly, of Columbus, OH; also survived by two sisters, Erna Schaal and Wilma Stewart; along with grandsons, Zackary V. Willis, Christopher R. Nagel, Eric C. Richard, Michael A. Richard; and two great- grandsons, Dracen Milos and Christian Nagel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Natalie Gutkuhn; two brothers, Hugo and Herbert Gutkuhn; and one sister, Renetta (Gutkuhn) Wind. A 1942 graduate of Allegheny High School, she was one of the first women to sell real estate in the North Hills Multilist and earned the top sales person award several times in her 27-year career. In retirement she enjoyed searching for treasures at local garage sales and took great pleasure in beating her grandsons at Wheel of Fortune. MEREDITH ROBERT A. Age 86, formerly of McMurray, PA and Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away on March 30, 2015. Robert served in the U.S. Signal Corp from 1945-1946, then graduated from University of Pittsburgh in 1952. He worked as a controller at Ampco-Pittsburgh and retired at Radioear Corporation, where he also worked as a controller. In 1969, Robert was elected as the first Democrat Council member, Peters Township, PA, until 1980 when he retired and moved to Myrtle Beach, SC. He was an avid bowler, active in the Grand Strand Bowling Association and was elected to the Association's Hall of Fame. In 2010, Robert and Ophelia moved to Roswell, GA to be closer to family. Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ophelia Meredith; son, Jeff (Mary) Meredith, of Marietta, GA; daughter, Lynda (Scott) Brown of Delaware; loving granddaughters, Amanda and Missy Meredith and Laura Brown; brother, Donald Meredith, of McMurray, PA. LANGHORST MICHELLE R. On March 30, 2015, Michelle Rachael Langhorst, passed away. Michelle was recently Honorably Discharged from the US Army after nine and a half years as a Staff Sergeant. During her service with the Army, she served a tour in Afghanistan during Iraqi Freedom and four years at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. She is survived by her sister, Nicole Marie Langhorst; and parents, Connie and Michael Langhorst. She is also survived by her Uncle Sam Mosco and Aunt JuJu, Uncle Tom and Aunt Cheryl Langhorst; her Godmother, Carol Clemente; many cousins, nieces and nephews; so many wonderful friends and her friend, Oliver James. Michelle had such a kind and compassionate heart, she was always willing to help those in need and other veterans. She also donated much of her time working for the Wounded Warrior Project. PICKERING ANNA MAY Age 94, passed away on March 27, 2015. Sunny, as she was known to her friends and family, was born September 21, 1920, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of Arvid Peter and Gerda (Kylander) Sunnergren. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Douglas Pickering; and brother, Edward Sunnergren. She is survived by her three children, Timothy of Hawaii, Daniel of Pittsburgh, and Lorraine (David) of Eighty Four, PA; also surviving are her grandchildren, Emma Pickering of San Francisco, and Tess and Kyle Bansavage of Eighty Four. She also has many relatives that live outside of Pittsburgh. Sunny was an artist. She was also a creative, intelligent, generous, humorous lady who loved to travel, garden, entertain, and take many classes to keep her mind sharp. She attended the symphony and opera with her granddaughter, Tess as her chaperone. She never liked to believe that age should slow you down. She graduated from Carnegie Tech with a degree in Fine Arts in 1943. She discovered a love for fabric and over the years created many wall hangings that hung throughout buildings in Pittsburgh. With her husband as her designer they were quite a team. Her last wall hanging, at age 90, was for the Shaare Torah Congregation in Squirrel Hill. Sunny was a member of the Scandinavian Society for many years because she enjoyed her ethnic heritage. Sunny loved France and took French lessons up to a week before she passed. She lived life to the fullest and looked at the glass half full. She believed as Isaac Newton did that a body in motion stays in motion. She will be remembered by her love of entertaining, and enjoying wine with guests in her home. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 4, 2015, at 11:00 at Third Presbyterian Church in Shadyside with a reception to follow at the church. Burial will be private. SCHMIDT SUSAN SCOTT Age 55, on March 31, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. She was a wonderful and loving wife and loyal friend. She is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas M. Schmidt; her brothers, William A. Scott of Los Angeles, the Reverend George B. Scott (Donna) of Dillsburg, PA; three stepdaughters; two nieces; and two nephews. Susan grew up near Gettysburg. She was a national merit scholar, a graduate of Chatham University and Pitt Business School. She spent a year in Paris as an au pair. Susan worked for Allegheny County, becoming a senior aid to Commissioner Pete Flaherty. Susan helped with the development of the new midfield terminal at the airport and the new jail, and sat on a number of County Boards, including that of the Community College. She later worked in public relations, was a travel writer and wrote a column for Shady Avenue magazine. She was a board member of POWER, a nonprofit agency which helps women overcome addictions. Her hobbies included astrology and her cat, Franklin. Susan was a delegate to three Democratic National Conventions. She and her husband loved to travel. They worked together to restore two 19th century seaside cottages near St. Augustine, FL. She was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, the Pittsburgh Golf Club, the Rolling Rock Club, and Hillcrest Garden Club. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC.
