TAMBELINNI ALFRED JOSEPH AL ...

TAMBELINNI ALFRED JOSEPH AL East Liverpool Alfred Joseph Al Tambellini, longtime owner and administrator of Nentwick Convalescent Home, passed away peacefully at his home just after midnight Saturday, May 9, 2015. His beloved wife, Mary, his extended family and many friends were at his bedside at the time of death. He was 86. Al Tambellini was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a great- grandfather, an uncle, and a true friend. He was one that did his job thoroughly and with dedication. Like so many from his generation, he did what was needed to be done and never asked or expected thanks or recognition of any kind, just respect for the care he had taken to serve to the best of his ability. He never wanted honor for his deeds. This obituary is but a humble attempt to shine a light on one who deserved so much thanks, honor, praise and love. May it serve as a standard we may all wish to leave as our legacy. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, on November 17, 1928, he was the son of the late Guglielmo William and Marianna Tambellini. Nicknamed Babe by his family, he was the younger brother to Paul and Wilma Tambellini, who have both preceded him in death. He was raised in a very traditional Italian, Catholic family where family and church meant everything. Al attended school until he needed to forego his education to help his family. Devotion and loyalty to his family was shown through integrity and hard work. At the age of 16, he began working in the service industry at the Carousel Nightclub of Pittsburgh. A job that would define his life. He was a frontline combat veteran of the Korean War, serving with the Wolfhounds of the 27th Infantry Division. Al had followed the footsteps of his father, a World War I veteran, and his brother, a World War II veteran to serve their country with devotion and pride. Al earned his diploma after returning home from serving his country. He returned to his employment as waiter, where he would continue to gain success as he worked every major nightclub in Pittsburgh. His positions would include, captain of the first wait staff at Pittsburgh's The LeMont, captain at Park Schenley and Club 30, Maître D' at Waterford Park, and Head Maître D' at The Meadows in Washington, PA. His wife of 51 years, Mary Nentwick Tambellini, survives him at home. For many years, he and his wife operated the Nentwick Convalescent Home together. It was there he achieved the certification of Administrator and continued his legacy of service. The Tambellinis were well-known and respected by the countless residents and employees whom they cared for and treated as their own family. He retired in 2007 after 63 years of working in the service industry and pursued his love of golf. The members of the Tambellini family are longtime members of the Holy Trinity Parish, formerly St. Aloysius Church. In addition to Mary, Al is survived by two daughters, Mimi Tambellini and her husband, Jason Croxall, and Julie and her husband, Richard Butch Stoddard, all of East Liverpool; along with his nephew, Paul Robert Tambellini, of Pittsburgh. He leaves behind his childhood friend from the first grade, Bill McDermott and his wife, Pat, of Pittsburgh, with whom he has remained in contact with on a near daily basis for his lifetime. He is sadly missed by his four grandchildren, Alex Tambellini, Paxton Croxall, Richard Stoddard, of East Liverpool, and Brian and his wife, Sarah Stoddard, of Columbus; and many great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.
