STUTHERS Sr. ELAINE OSF On Wednesday, December 2, 2015. Beloved sister of Mary (Joseph) Ferrang, Robert Lucot and the late James A. Stuthers, Therese McMahon and Eileen Lucot; loving daughter of the late James and Hildegarde Stuthers. Sister leaves behind her many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. S. Elaine once said, " ... the reason for my existence is to be a Franciscan. Following Francis' way of life is a life of love of God and neighbor." For 68 years, sister was true to that call ministering as an educator in the field of science in high schools both in the Dioceses of Pittsburgh and San Juan, Puerto Rico. After the closing of several of these schools, she worked in the finance and business departments of St. Francis Hospital in Georgia and St. Francis Hospital in Pittsburgh, and then in the business office at Mt. Alvernia. The greatest example of Sister Elaine's living the ideals of St. Francis, however, were in the last year of her life when she befriended the Parkinson's which took over her body. For over a decade Sister Elaine, through her gentle and non-complaining demeanor, was the mentor and inspiration to her sisters in community, her dear family, the many devoted nursing staff at Mt. Alvernia, and to the faithful friends who came on a regular basis. As St. Francis referred to all of creation as either Brother or Sister, we feel certain that S. Elaine welcomed Sister Illness and Sister Death with serenity and peace. Visitation at the MT. ALVERNIA MOTHERHOUSE CHAPEL, 146 Hawthorne Rd., Millvale on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of a wake service at 6:15 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Srs.
