
DiBATTISTE JOHN J. Age 91, of Point Breeze, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2013. Beloved husband of 59 years to Joanne Collins DiBattiste; father of John V. (Cindy), Janine Cohen (Jack), Michael A. (Maureen) and Angela M. DiBattiste; devoted Pap of eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother of Nick DiBattiste; also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. John was a WWII combat veteran with the 145th combat engineers, who in 1942 helped build the AL-CAN Highway. He then was deployed to Europe, landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day. His unit fought throughout Europe, helping to liberate Nazi concentration camps in Germany. After the war, he got a job with the forestry division of the City of Pittsburgh, before joining the Fire Department, where he worked for 20 years. John was a devoted family man and a member of St. Bede Parish for over 50 years, serving as an usher for 35 years. John had countless friends and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. FUNERAL HOME, 6214 Walnut Street, Shadyside on Thursday, 2-8 p.m., where Funeral will commence on Friday at 10 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bede Church at 11 am. Interment with military honors to follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA.
