VICTOR ARTHUR O. (RET. LT. COL. US ARMY) Age 59, formerly of Brighton Heights, on Sunday morning, December 22, 2013. Beloved husband of Anita Slagel Victor; father of Justin (Nina) Victor of East Allegheny, Gregory Victor of Fort Eustis, VA, Jessica (Jordan) Lucey of Cheyenne, WY, and Paul Victor of Hollywood, FL; survived by his mother, Marguerite Victor of Ross Twp.; also survived by his brothers, Thomas and James; preceded in death by his father, Arthur Victor, Sr. Art was a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, class of 1976. While on active duty, Art served his country in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and at home as a commander in the elite “Green Beret” Special Forces. He later served as an officer in the Reserve Forces completing nearly 26 years of combined service. He continued his work as a public servant for the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, holding various positions for several administrations. Art also held board seats for organizations such as the Veterans Leadership Program, the Pittsburgh Marathon, and the US Service Academy Selection Committee. Friends received on Thursday 1-9 p.m. in the H.P. BRANDT FUNERAL HOME, 1032 Perry Highway, Ross Twp. Funeral Prayer Friday morning at 10:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial St. Cyril of Alexandria Church, 3854 Brighton Road, Brighton Heights, at 11 a.m. with Father Bruney, officiating. NOVOTNY GLORIA L. 67, of Rices Landing, died Saturday, December 21, 2013 in Monongahela Valley Hospital, Monongahela. She had lived most of her life in the Clairton area and the last two years in Rices Landing. On October 27, 1967, she married Lawrence C. Novotny, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Michelle Basinger and her husband, Earnest of Rices Landing, Anthony Novotny and his wife, Lisa of Virginia Beach, VA, Annette Arizmendi and her husband, Joseph of Virginia Beach, VA; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers. HOFMANN ROBERT GEORGE, Jr. Age 59, of Ross Twp., passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2013. He was the loving son of the late Robert George Hofmann, Sr. and Betty A. (Robinson) Hofmann; beloved brother of Barbara (Jack) Morrow; uncle of Rebecca J. Morrow and Frederick J. Morrow III; great-uncle of Christiana, Alexandra and Sofia; nephew of Jackie and Carl Hirth. Robert was an employee of Verizon, was an avid Bingo player at St. Teresa's Bingo and could be found every day at the McKnight Rd. Eat N'Park. Beloved husband of 63 years to Elizabeth Campbell Kernick; loving father of Patricia (Pete) Longdon, Jeffrey (Denise “Dee”) Kernick, Mary Ann (Edward) Podrat, Cecelia (Edward) Reuss, Edward (Debra) Kernick, Jr. and the late Jeanne Whiteman; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother of Mary Lou Zaccardi and the late Elizabeth Quattrone, James and William Kernick. Doc practiced Podiatry in Penn Hills for 35 years, and was a member of the Western PA Podiatry Association. Beloved husband of Mary Jane (Morgan) Herd for 60 years; loving father of Daniel W. (Carrie) Herd of Stow, OH, Shelly (Al) Muner of North Huntingdon, Charles J. "Chickie" Herd of Donegal, Patty Aponte of FL, and Eileen (Darren) Powell of Carlisle; dear grandfather of Melissa (Brian) Kuentz, Zach Herd, Holly and Beth Rainier, Alexis, Rachel and Morgan Aponte, Matthew and Michael Powell; step-grandfather of Nikki (Mike) Biedrycki and their children, Aubrey and Gabe, and Michael Muner and his daughter, Amelia; brother of the late Joan. Chick was a graduate of St. Thomas High School, Braddock, and earned a basketball scholarship to Duquesne University. Instead of pursuing his education, he became employed at US Steel, Edgar Thomson Plant, before joining the Army and becoming a Korean War veteran. Chick made a career as a Tool and Die Maker at GM's Fisher Body plant in West Mifflin and also volunteered as a basketball coach for many seasons at St. William School in East Pittsburgh. Beloved son of Joseph F., Jr. and Marylee Judeikis; loving brother of Jennifer (Nathan) DeVine; uncle of Connor and Elsie DeVine; nephew of Janet (Norman) Armondino, Cathy (Richard) Diadamo and Louise Judeikis. He is also survived by his faithful four- legged companion, Blue; his extended family and his friends. Joe was a field service tech/ installer for Tri-State Lockers and his hobbies included being a motorcycle mechanic extraordinaire. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to help anyone. Born January 15, 1937 in Windber, daughter of the late Nick and Theresa (Emanuele) Bucci. Preceded in death by her loving lifetime partner, Jay Garber; brother, Robert Bucci; sisters-in-law, Marylouise and Gladys Bucci; and brother-in-law, John Tengeres; sister to Kathryn Tengeres and Mauro Bucci, both of Windber; aunt to Patricia (James) Hovanik, Karen (Larry) Marshall, and Debra Tengeres (James Zemyan); also survived by great-nieces, Stephanie Gaydis and Ashley (Jesse) Brocious; loving friend and caregiver of more than 20 years, Kathy (David) Reece; Jay's children, Beth (Bill) West, Steven (Tracey) Garber, and Craig (Debbie) Garber; and Jay's grandchildren, Bill III, Benjamin, May, Lindsay, Bo, Westyn, and Jena.
