SPIGLE EDWARD WRAY 89, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2013. Ed, known to family and friends often by either “Wray” or “Spig”, was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred B. (Mathews) Spigle in 1986. Ed was born in Troutville, VA on January 6, 1924, one of five children of Aubrey William and Fannie Mae (Barnhart) Spigle. Ed remained active and was employed well into his 80s, living independently until very recently. After serving in the U.S. Army in WWII under Gen. Patton where he and his wife, Millie, met, Ed enjoyed a long time occupation in golf course construction, repair and maintenance working for Tanto Construction in Murrysville. Although having to be away from his family, Ed had the opportunity to travel to beautiful golf course locations including Puerto Rico and areas of the eastern U.S., meeting many interesting people and making friends along the way. A longtime and active member of the former Alpha Lutheran Church in Turtle Creek, Ed served on church council and served many breakfasts after sunrise services. He later joined Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Monroeville. Ed was a friendly and easy-going man who enjoyed early mornings to himself outdoors and an early evening beer with friends before dinner. He had trouble sitting still, always needing to be busy and was a Steelers fan who remained loyal even when our team was on a losing streak. Ed is survived by three children, his two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Bobbi Spigle, Punxsutawney and Steve and Cathy Spigle, Penn Hills and his daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Jake Keller, York, PA; four grandchildren and their spouses, Casey Spigle and wife Cassi, Virginia, Matt Keller and wife, Gina, York, PA, Wendy Spigle, Pittsburgh, and Sadie Keller, Denver, CO; and three great-grandsons, Charlie, Wes, and Andrew; Ed is also survived by his youngest sister, Becky Jamison, Roanoke, VA; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Saturday from 11 a.m. - Noon at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC., corner of Shaw and Triboro Avenues, Turtle Creek (412-823-1950), where a service will be following the visitation at NOON. A private burial will take place in Restland Memorial Park, Monroeville. Our family wishes to acknowledge the kind and compassionate care provided to our dad by the Bridges Hospice as well as the Pittsburgh Veterans Administration. In lieu of flowers, you may make a contribution to Bridges Hospice, the American Cancer Society or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. www.jobefuneralhome.com Send condolences at post-gazette.com/gb
