DUFFY RITA BIXLER Age 89, beloved wife for 32 years to the late James Richard Duffy of Upper St. Clair, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017, with family by her side. Rita was born in 1927 in Cleveland, OH. She attended St. Augustine Academy in Cleveland and received her Associates degree at Bowling Green University. In 1963 she moved to Pittsburgh with her husband where she raised her family. Rita's life was her family and church. She was an active parishioner at St. Louise de Marillac Church and served with the Ladies of Charity and the Widows Group. During this time, she also ministered to the spiritual and material needs of those who were ill, elderly or financially stressed. Rita was a member of Valley Brook Country Club where she enjoyed golfing with her friends. Rita will be remembered for her kind and loving demeanor and her devotion to her family and faith. FRITZ ZENO JAMES “WOODY” Died peacefully on February 11, 2017, in Rocky Hill, CT, at the age of 79. He was born June 28, 1937, in Pittsburgh, PA to Mary and Zeno Fritz. He graduated from Carnegie Melon with an engineering degree, from University of Pittsburgh with a business degree, and from Duquesne University with a degree in pharmacy. He moved to CT in 2002 where he could be seen taking long walks and being a friend to all he met. He followed sports enthusiastically. Men's college basketball and the Pittsburgh Steelers were #1. He is survived by a brother, Charles J. Fritz and sister-in-law, Patricia of Orlando, FL; a sister, Mary Alice Cronin of Rocky Hill, CT; a sister-in-law, Barbara Fritz of Chesapeake, VA; nephews, Bill, Jim, Chip, and Jack Fritz, Kevin, Christopher, and Sean Cronin; nieces, Juliann Fritz Brigham, Mary Beth Fritz Ayres; and multiple great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Mary and Zeno Fritz; and a brother, Thomas V. Fritz. MINSINGER JACOB R. Born October 18, 1925, died February 9, 2017, at the age of 91. Son of the late Walter and Myrtle Minsinger; husband of the late Georgia Flynn for 53 years; beloved father of Jerry (Debra) Minsinger and Jean (the late Victor) Cianca; loving grandfather of Jacob and Chelsea Minsinger, Victor (Natalie) and Steve Cianca; loving great-grandfather of Amber, Kara and Tieran Cianca. Jacob was a great-grandson of one of Mount Washington's original settlers. He served in the Army Air Force in WWII with the 19th Bomb Group, 20th Air Force on the Mariana Islands of Saipan, Tinian and Guam. He attended the University of Pittsburgh where he received a B.A. and M.E. in special education. During his career in education, he attended Bank Street College of Education from 1974-1978. His time there was spent improving educational practices and learning about the educational system in the United States and around the world. Jacob retired in 2001 after serving in the Pittsburgh Public Schools for 55 years. In addition to his tenure as an educator, Jacob was active in numerous Masonic organizations, serving as Master of the John A. Brashear Masonic Lodge 743 F&AM. CARTWRIGHT PAULA (GATTO) Of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, formerly of Pittsburgh and Dormont, died at the age of 87, after a brief illness. Beloved wife of Tom, and loving mother of Dr. Rex Gatto (Mickey), Jeff Cartwright, Chris Cartwright (Marie), Randall Cartwright, deceased (Linda), and stepson, Tommy Cartwright; grandchildren, Shawn Gatto, Maura Gatto Cermak (Jeff), Sarah Cartwright, Andrew Cartwright, Rebecca Kate Cartwright and Mya Lani; and over 20 step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Music was Paula's soul and she was born to perform. At age 11, she sang at the dedication of the Italian Room at the Cathedral of Learning at Pitt. She continued her musical journey throughout her life, singing with the Pittsburgh Opera for more than 25 years in countless solo roles and as a chorister. During the 50s and 60s, she also sang in many venues, performing operatic arias and pop songs. In recent years, she performed in nursing homes, singing popular songs from the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s. She gave her last performance in November of 2016. She recorded a CD at age 85, which included operatic solos such as Vissi d'arte from Tosca. She dedicated her life to her musical passion, bringing joy to countless audiences through her angelic soprano voice. She loved Sunday brunch with family and taking selfies to send to all of the relatives. She lived life in deep faith, always saying, "keep the angels with you."
